The RTC Podblast: Time and Score Edition

Posted by rtmsf on January 31st, 2014

Welcome back to the RTC Podblast. In this week’s edition, the guys take a look back at a week filled with some strange upsets, including what might be the only time in the history of podcasts that the Northwestern fight song was used, a discussion of time and score (also known as a 13.5 second interlude), and a look ahead to a ridiculously strong Saturday of college basketball. As always, Shane Connolly (@sconnolly114) hosts.

Make sure to subscribe to the podcast/podblast on iTunes so that you’ll get all of the episodes immediately downloaded to your listening device.

The RTC Podcast: Undefeated Chances Edition

Posted by rtmsf on January 28th, 2014

Welcome back to this week’s RTC Podcast. It wasn’t the best weekend of college basketball we’ve ever seen, but there were at least a few interesting games that led to some key takeaways for the guys as we reach the last gasp of January. Shane Connolly (@sconnolly114) hosts us as we walked through thoughts on the Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC races, take a look at some of the most underrated conferences this season, and discuss why Florida is so high in everyone’s polls (including the RTC25) and Louisville is so low. It’s a fun ramble, as always, and we hope you enjoy.

The RTC Podblast: Best Conference Edition

Posted by rtmsf on January 24th, 2014

It’s been an interesting week around the college basketball universe, and the RTC Podblast is back to lead you through it. Actually, that’s not true. This is a bit of a different podblast, mostly because we weren’t able to get our Rush the Takes segment recorded as early in the week as we usually do. So in this one, we review a few of the week’s better results but also spent some time talking Big 12 basketball with ESPN analyst, Fran Fraschilla. As always, he was an informative and engaging guest, and we were pleased to hear his takes regarding what some argue is the best league in college basketball this season. The full rundown is below.

Make sure to subscribe to the podcast/podblast on iTunes so that you’ll get all of them immediately downloaded to your listening device.

  • 0:00-4:11 – Michigan Launches Themselves Towards the Top of the Big Ten
  • 4:11-7:50 – Minnesota Notches Another Big Ten Upset While Wisconsin Continues Their Slide
  • 7:50-19:10 – Rush the Takes With Fran Fraschilla

The RTC Podcast: Rankings vs. Resume Edition

Posted by rtmsf on January 22nd, 2014

We’re a bit later this week because of some issues involving Richard Sherman, MLK Day and a snowstorm named Janus (seriously?), we’re back with this week’s RTC Podcast. Of course, if you were already an iTunes subscriber, you would have already listened to the recording because it dropped much earlier on Wednesday over there. We highly suggest that you make it a part of your regular podcast rotation by subscribing on iTunes. What’s the worst that could happen?

In this week’s edition, hosted by the inimitable Shane Connolly (@sconnolly114), we forgo the Rush the Takes segment in favor of really digging into the key midseason question of distinguishing between a team’s ranking and a team’s resume. And never the twain shall meet. We go back and forth on this during a discussion of several teams, and as always, have a great time doing it. The full rundown is below.

  • 0:00-7:52 – Kansas and the End of the Big 12 Title Race
  • 7:52-18:22 – Fallout From Creighton’s Three-Point Shooting Clinic in Philly
  • 18:22-23:50 – Syracuse and Pitt Have a Classic Big East Battle (in the ACC)
  • 23:50-28:59 – #RootForTheSuit and #CheerForTheEars in the Rankings
  • 28:59-33:50 – Concern for Struggling Teams
  • 33:50-38:54 – You, Me and the AP (Florida)
  • 38:54-44:13 – You, Me and the AP (Louisville)

The RTC Podblast: To Rush or Not to Rush Edition

Posted by rtmsf on January 17th, 2014

Happy Friday, folks. It’s the middle of January and the conference season is in full swing. With that means the annual griping and groaning about fans rushing the court, storming the castle, wetting the bed, whatever you want to call it. It’s all baloney at the end of the day — college hoops is fun and entertaining and inspirational at times — does anyone really care — we mean, really care — if students run out on the court to get some TV time? We don’t. Now, on to this week’s RTC Podblast, and Indiana’s RTC on Tuesday night certainly made it into the discussion. But never fear, listeners, we didn’t dwell on it. Here’s this week’s edition.

Make sure to add the RTC Podcast to your iTunes lineup so that you’ll automatically upload it on your listening device after we record. And feel free to contact us through Twitter or email — we’re listening.

You’ll learn about a team that Pomeroy the fan disagrees with Pomeroy the statistician, and understand a little better what the future of advanced metrics holds in the arena of college basketball. Pomeroy gives a really good interview, and we hope that you’ll give it a listen.
