Top 25 Games

  • #1 Ohio State 87, #12 Purdue 64: “Well, I guess that takes care of any questions as to which team is truly the cream of the crop in the B1G – and the country – for that matter. Featuring a balanced attack that saw six Buckeyes reach double figures, Ohio State simply outmanned and out hustled the Purdue Boilermakers on the way to an uber-convincing 87-64 blowout victory in front of a national TV audience.” (Eleven Warriors or Boiled Sports)
  • #5 Kansas 82, Colorado 78: “In the last Big 12 meeting in Boulder for the Jayhawks and Buffaloes, Kansas heads home after winning 82-78. This was just an amazing game to watch as a fan all the way down to the end.  Great plays for the good guys and a couple of outstanding performances from Alec Burks and Cory Higgins for Colorado. This was like watching a baseball game at pre-humidor Coors field. We knew Colorado could score at home and they did just that, scoring 1.24 points per possession on the night. Luckily Kansas was even better with five guys scoring 9 or more points.  The balance that had been missing in the early part of the conference schedule showed up with Brady Morningstar and Josh Selby having very good offensive nights. Selby led the team with 17 points followed by Marcus Morris with 15 points.” (Rock Chalk Talk)
  • Seton Hall 90, #10 Syracuse 68: Syracuse fans can’t even begin to describe how shocked they were by this so instead they turned to old movie clips to describe the sensation. (Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician)

Other Games of Interest

  • UF 104, Georgia 91 (2 OT): “To double overtime and to hell with Georgia. That was the story Tuesday night as the Gators blew a late lead in regulation, but manned up to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs 104-91 in double overtime. Florida (16-4, 5-1) led by six points with 1:28 left in the second half, when UF missed free throws and the Bulldogs tied it with a buzzer-beating putback. In overtime, Georgia (14-5, 3-3) led by three when Erving Walker scored three of his 24 points with a shot made from Atlanta that stunned the Bulldogs. Walker’s shot ultimately sank the Bulldogs as UF rolled in the final OT, outscoring Georgia 19-6.” (Alligator Army)
  • Georgia Tech 72, Virginia Tech 57: “After a great offensive first half, the Hokies faded in the second half and fell to a lousy Georgia Tech team in front of a scattering of family, friends, and nerds at Alexander Memorial Coliseum in Atlanta (the arena, which seats 9,100, had maybe 5,000 people there).  The Jackets (3-3) won 72-57 over the Hokies (3-3).  While GT is just 10-9 on the season, they are 8-2 at home and 3-0 in ACC play at the Thriller Dome.  Luckily, the Hokies get a shot at GT in the Cassell.  GT is 0-6 on the road this year and 1-18 in ACC road games the last three seasons.” (Tech Hoops)

News/Analysis

  • I love watching Roscoe Smith play basketball: “This evening I’ll be driving up to Milwaukee to see the Huskies in person for the third time this year. I hadn’t seen a UConn game in person for a year and half until I took in UConn’s matchup with DePaul last week. I’d seen almost all of their games on TV and felt that I had a good feel for the team, but when you’re not in the stands regularly you can forget just how much of the game you’re missing. Since I got to see the DePaul game and Saturday’s matchup with Tennessee in person, there are a couple of things about this team that I have a much greater appreciation for, and at the top of that list is the play of Roscoe Smith.” (The UConn Blog)
  • Scoop Jardine: Saint, Sinner Or A Little Bit Of Both: “Scoop Jardine. Say that name right now to Syracuse fans and you’re guaranteed to receive a distinct reaction. Probably not a good one, which is a shame considering who the guy is. As we know, it’s all about what you do on the court. And right now, the way we feel about Scoop on the court is too negative to counter the positives we think of him off the court.” (Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician)
  • Will Ben Howland be Vindicated?: After being mocked earlier this season when he said that the Bruins might be a NCAA Tournament team it looks like Ben Howland might be proven right. (Bruins Nation)
