Over the past two weeks we have whittled down the field from 12 logos to two. Amazingly, the two that Drew and I chose for the top two seeds (The Beaver and Bruin) have advanced to the final! Voting will go all week long and then we will crown the winner. Here we go!
#1 Oregon State vs #2 UCLA
Connor’s thoughts: Not much to say about this other than it’s a great matchup. I’ll take the Bruin because of everything I’ve mentioned before; the punctured football, the bear tracks, it’s just all too much for the Beaver.
Drew’s thoughts: Given the Bruins’ struggles on the football field of late (not that their basketball exploits have been terrific), the football in the ESPNU logo turns me off a bit. Plus, the OSU logo is just a more clever take all the way around. I’ll take the favorite in the all-chalk final.
Two rounds have been completed in the ESPNU Pac-12 Logo Tourney, and I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with the field going into the semis. We have the top two overall seeds (Oregon State and UCLA), a sixth-seeded sleeper (Arizona State), and a Cinderella (#11 Washington State). Now it’s on to the semifinals, where the #1 Beaver meets the #6 Sun Devil, and the #2 Bruin takes on the #11 Cougar. Voting will go all weekend long and the championship will be held on Monday. Here we go!
#1 Oregon State vs #6 Arizona State
Connor’s thoughts: This is by far the toughest matchup to pick so far. I’ve already stated all of the things I like about these in previous posts, but I think the Beaver edges out the Devil. The Beaver is just more life-like, from the fur to the buck-teeth and tail. I may be the only one who thinks this, but the Devil looks too flat and still.
Drew’s thoughts: This is a stacked semifinal, as I’d frankly take either of these by a wide margin over either entry on the other side of the bracket. But I’ve still got to take Sun Devils here. Loving the smoke, the burnt wood and the pitchfork all in addition to the Devil himself.
#2 UCLA vs #11 Washington State
Connor’s thoughts: As much as I like a good Cinderella, the Bruin just has so much detail that it can’t be left out of the championship. The Cougar is solid, but in the end it’s just too plain.
Drew’s thoughts: So we’ve got a cat with no eyes up against a football-stomping blind-folded bear from a basketball school? Hmm. Still not sure how the non-descript cougar from WSU made it this far, but I would not like to run up against that bear in a dark alley. Gimme the Bruins by default.
That’s it! Make sure to vote and check back Tuesday for the Championship!
One round is complete in the ESPNU Pac-12 Logo Tourney, and Colorado, Arizona State, Washington, and Washington State have all advanced to the quarterfinals. They will meet the top four seeds who received byes for the first round. So, make sure to vote for your favorite and come back on Friday to see the semifinal matchups. Here we go!
#9 Colorado vs #1 Oregon State
Connor’s thoughts: I still don’t get what all the fuss with the Buffalo is about, but apparently I’m in the minority there. The Beaver is awesome for the little things: The gnawed off wood that says “ESPN” on it, the buck teeth, the little pool of water it’s in. ESPN really showed some creativity and effort there, so I’m taking the Beaver.
Drew’s thoughts: OSU is our number one seed, and while that’s a cool logo, the Buffalo looks a little more intimidating. Welcome to the Pac-12 Colorado…
Beginning today and going thru Nov. 15, the RTC Pac-12 Microsite (that’s us!) will be holding a tournament to determine the best ESPNU Pac-12 logo. Beginning today you can vote for your favorite in a 12-team bracket style tournament. Drew and I have seeded them and placed them into the bracket. All you have to do is pick your favorite, or (here’s looking at you, Ute fans) vote for your favorite team regardless of how bad their logo is. Beginning tonight and going through Monday night, you can pick from the below matchups. Then come back on Wednesday to vote from a whole new set of matchups. Here we go!
#8 Oregon vs #9 Colorado
Connor’s thoughts: I flat-out just don’t like these logos. The Ducks’ only admirable quality is the green and yellow hat, and the only thing I like on the Colorado one is the steam coming out of its nose. I’m taking Oregon because the Buffalo has birds on top of it, and who even knows what’s up with that.
Drew’s thoughts: Tough first round matchup between logos that could cause the #1 overall seed trouble in the next round. I’ll take the Buffaloes here, but it’s a close call.
Drew’s Thoughts: The Utes have by far the worst logo. The only thing at all that indicates that it may belong to Utah are the feathers. One of the guys at BlockU came up with a better logo, and if that was the actual logo, Utah might have a chance. Or maybe not, because the ASU logo is pretty good.
The MAAC conference tournament gave us another buzzer-beater last night. Saint Peter’s guard Desi Washington rushed down the court and nailed a trey to eliminate Fairfield 65-62 on Washington’s THIRD game-winning buzzer-beater against the Stags this season.
Clown, thy name is UCSB fan. Although players and coaches alike are expected to behave professionally, fans also have a responsibility to contain themselves. Incidents like last night’s approach by a rabid UCSB fan are dangerous for everyone involved.
