Circle of March, Louisville Edition (Animated)

Posted by rtmsf on April 11th, 2013

The finality of it all hits sometime around Wednesday evening after the National Championship game. What, no college hoops to look forward to this weekend? Just NBA Draft announcements and the coaching carousel from now until the first heat of summer? That’s right. On March 5, we began our annual foray into the Circle of March with 310 teams pursusing a shot at the title. After 35 days of fascinating and compelling elimination basketball, we were left with only one outfit still standing. The Louisville Cardinals are your 2013 National Champions, a group as deserving as they are engaging. It’s time for the CoM to retire for another year…

Circle of March: Vol. XX

And after 35 days of the Circle of March, we’re down to just two schools — Louisville and Michigan. We’ll leave it at this for now, but just a reminder to check back on Tuesday for the animated version of the CoM as we narrowed the competitors down from 310 possibilities to just a single champion. Enjoy Monday Night.

The Circle of March, Final Four Edition. As we said goodbye to four more schools over the weekend, we’re left with just four others who think they have the goods to cut the nets down in Atlanta next Monday night. Louisville, Wichita State, Michigan and Syracuse — look at the symmetry! Only one of you can walk away with the elusive title (and CoM all to yourselves), but it will be well-deserved no matter which school it is.

After Thursday and Friday night’s games, the Circle of March is looking quite sparse. Starting with 310, there are now only eight schools with a shot at a national championship. Who will it be?

Circle of March, Vol. XVII

After four straight days of wall-to-wall hoops, the Circle of March is now down to just 16 lucky schools. Note the one surprise school sorta drifting out to sea over on the left hand side. How much further can the ridiculously fun group from Florida Gulf Coast advance in this year’s NCAA Tournament? We’ll find out soon enough…

Thirty-two teams left. The NCAA Tournament field has been eviscerated into half over the last two days and we’re done to the final 32 suitors for the crown. Aside from a handful of plucky and lovable Cinderellas, most of the remaining teams have a legitimate shot. The Circle of March is slowly showing vast swaths of white space, but it’s still kinda interesting how the clusters have arisen. Until Sunday…

From 68 to 64 — eight squared and four cubed. The perfectly balanced bracket will take a major hit later today, when 16 hopefuls are removed from it and the Circle of March, in a 12-hour window. Today we say hello to the best four days in all of sports, while also saying goodbye to four teams that had wonderful seasons with memories to last a lifetime. Only one of the 64 squads below can survive the Circle — which one will it be?ThursdayMarch21

Circle of March, Vol. XIII

And there you have it. With the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee’s bracket that was released on Sunday night, there are now only 68 teams left competing for the 2013 national championship. There will be no back-to-back champion, as Kentucky was relegated to the NIT along with eight other bubbling teams. Now that the Circle of March has been reduced from a robust 310 competitors all the way down to the final 68 over the last two weeks, this is where the real fun begins! Onward to 66…

Circle of March, Vol. XII

Posted by rtmsf on March 17th, 2013

After an exhilarating Championship Saturday, it’s now Selection Sunday and we’ve eliminated 10 more schools to get down to a total of 78 teams still alive. There are four championship games today — Atlantic 10, ACC, Big Ten, and SEC — all involving teams that are likely hear their names called later tonight (Ole Miss is on the cut line of most bracket projections), so the NCAA Selection Committee will have to decide which of the remaining schools will be among the 10 unlucky names removed from the CoM.
