After a weekend full of some smaller tournaments we are getting set for Feast Week. We will be all over the US covering games out in Maui as well as Kansas City and much of the rest of the US so be on the watch out for RTC all over the country. If you are interested in participating in our ATB2 feature, send in your submissions to rushthecourt@gmail.com.

Top 25 Games

  • #9 Purdue 82, Oakland 67: “Purdue came out very lethargic tonight against a punchy and prepared Oakland squad. E’Twaun Moore had a huge night with 26 points and was 4/5 beyond the arc. The Boilers were simply deeper and when Oakland tired down the stretch, Purdue pulled away and won 82-67.” (Boiled Sports)
  • #11 Syracuse 63, William & Mary 60: “I was high up in the stratosphere while Syracuse was scaring the crap out of all of you in their 63-60 survival against William & Mary. I won’t pretend to know how to recap this one so I leave it up to you guys” (Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician)
  • #18 Georgetown 82, NC State 67: “Georgetown went down to Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday wondering who would fill in for Julian Vaughn after he had spent the early part of the week in the hospital.  Would it be Nate Lubick, Jerrelle Benimon, or Henry Sims?  Or would no one show up?  Well the Hoyaswere able to get three quality performances from Vaughn, but also saw the emergence of the previously disappointing Sims.  The junior from Baltimore put together his best performance in a Georgetown uniform on Friday.  He capped that performance with an MVP-level game today as Georgetown defeated NC State 82-67 to win the Charleston Classic.” (Casual Hoya)
  • #21 Virginia Tech 92, UNC-Greensboro 70: “All in all, this was the perfect tonic as VT heads to the 76 Classic starting this Thursday in Anaheim.” (Tech Hoops)

Other Games of Interest

  • Minnesota 74, West Virginia 70: “This was a really nice set of wins.  After beating a couple solid mid-majors we followed that up with three nice wins in Puerto Rico.  The first was obviously another mid-major of the same ilk as Siena and Wofford.  But we then beat a couple very good ACC and Big East teams.  North Carolina is trying to rebound from an NIT season last year and West Virginia is trying to find their identity after losing a couple great players following their Final Four run a year ago.” (The Daily Gopher)
  • Indiana 67, Evansville 54: “But most impressive was the way the Hoosiers took care of the ball. After giving it away 12 times in the first 20 minutes, only three miscues occurred in the second half for a total of 15. As Alex tweeted this morning, IU ranked 329th out of 344 Division I teams in turnover percentage heading into this game. Not very good. And whether the team builds off the turnover-light second half remains to be seen. But in a season where turnovers have been a glaring problem, this afternoon’s performance was encouraging.” (Inside the Hall)
  • Michigan 80, Gardner-Webb 58: “With another easy win over a lackluster opponent, Michigan continues to do all that one could ask of such a young team. USC Upstate, Bowling Green, and Gardner-Webb are all bad teams, but Michigan has handled them all with relative ease. As so many teams know all too well, anything can happen when you step on the floor.” (UM Hoops)

News/Analysis

  • Elias Harris expected to play against Kansas State: “Harris is a competitor in every sense in the word.  While it goes without saying that Elias probably won’t be 100%, his mere presence on the court will help this team because he’s a guy you always have to be watching if you are an opposing team.” (The Slipper Still Fits)
  • After Week 1, Terps should be feeling good about themselves: Taking a look at the ACC from a Maryland perspective. (Testudo Times)
  • Indiana: Where normal matters so much: “This team isn’t great. It isn’t terrible. It isn’t terribly exciting. It’s just … normal. And after 2 1/2 years of unimaginable turmoil, that’s an important milestone to reach. The next one takes place in March.” (Inside the Hall)

Pre-Game Analysis

  • Marquette vs Duke: “I guess the kidding around is pretty much over. Marquette and Duke meet tonight in the CBE Classic in Kansas City. Today we look inside the numbers in anticipation of the season’s first major test for Marquette” (Cracked Sidewalks)
  • The EA Sports Maui Invitational: Looking at UK’s First Two Opponents: Taking a look at how the Wildcats match-up against their first two opponents (Washington and Virginia) in Maui. (A Sea of Blue)
  • Gut check time: Zags take on Kansas State: “This game will be a great test of this team and will show what exactly it is made of. I don’t know whether I am naïve or optimistic, but I just believe that we will something positive from the Zags today. I’m not as high on Kansas State as many people are, and I genuinely believe that if both teams bring their “A” game, Gonzaga emerges victorious.  I think we see this team get back on the right track, and the Zags come away with the 77-67 win.” (The Slipper Still Fits)
  • Know Your Cancun Rival: Wyoming: “When Mizzou takes on Wyoming on Tuesday evening in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, they’ll be facing one of the longest, most unique teams they’ll see all season.  Six of the Cowboys’ seven best players (according to AdjGS) are 6’6 or taller, and they draw a ton of fouls (while making a respectable 70% of their free throws).  But they can’t shoot from the outside, and considering their height, they are average rebounding team at best.  They handled Western Illinois more easily than Missouri did, but they also lost by double digits to North Florida.  Plus, they have potentially the greatest collection of names on Mizzou’s schedule.  A starting five of Djibril, JayDee, Desmar, Francisco and Amath?  Yes, please.” (Rock M Nation)
