Circle of March, Vol. I

Posted by rtmsf on February 27th, 2012

It may still read February on your calendar, but the Big South Tournament tips off tonight and therefore it’s time to start the 35-day journey from 321 teams alive to only one left standing — colloquially known around here as The Best Time of the Year. As we did last season, we’re going to represent this visually with our 2012 version of the Circle of March. We’ll remove teams each day as they’re eliminated from contention.

Shouldn’t the non-Penn/Harvard ivies, the great west, and the independents be eliminated already?

  2. rtmsf says:

It’s a fair point but not one we didn’t consider.

Four Ivies have already been eliminated b/c they can’t win the auto-bid, but we’re not eliminating the GW teams until they finish their regular season. Same thing with the Independents, although Cal State Bakersfield will be off the next version.

    Also
Sacramento State, N Arizona, N Colorado – did not qualify for Big Sky Tourney

Eastern Illinois, SIU-Edwardsville, UT-Martin – did not qualify for OVC Tourney

Bryant, FDU, St Francis PA, Mt St Marys – did not qualify for NEC Tourney

4 teams don’t make the Southland Tourney but they have yet to finish regular season.

And some of the SWAC teams are ineligible due to grades.

Yeah, this version didn’t include the OVC/NEC teams nor the other ineligibles. That’s how we started with roughly 320 teams rather than 345.

The Big Sky still has games tonight so we’re not removing those three until tomorrow when their season is officially over.
