Big East Recruiting Round-Up: Volume Three
Posted by Patrick Prendergast on December 8th, 2011Big East Recruiting Round-up is a recurring feature that will focus on, well, recruiting. Rumors, buzz, rankings…..everything potentially shiny and new.
Deck the Halls
Seton Hall has been busy looking for some holiday cheer to add to its roster. They were in the house to see Aquille Carr (’13 – 5’7″ point guard – Patterson– MD – Ranks: Rivals: 26 , ESPN: 59) play his first game of the season, according to Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop. Carr, affectionately known as “The Crime Stopper” because the crime rate in Baltimore plunges when he plays, also has Big East interest from Louisville, Connecticut and Syracuse.
The Pirates also offered Kris Jenkins (’13 – 6’5″ power forward – Gonzaga– DC – Ranks: Rivals: 26 , ESPN: N/R) per William Gunter via Twitter (@willgunter247). Jenkins holds an offer from Rutgers per ESPN.com and has interest from Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Marquette and Villanova per Rivals.com.
The Hall has also experienced recruiting success through an unexpected resource called Canarias Basketball Academy in the Canary Islands. The academy has produced three current Pirates: Patrick Auda, Haralds Karlis and Aaron Germaipoor and coach Kevin Willard is reported to be mining Canarias for a class of 2012 point guard according to southorangejuice.com via Twitter (@SOrangeJuice).
Johnson Headed Back East?
Sidiki Johnson’s career at Arizona turned out to be a brief one as the 6’8″ power forward has left school and will transfer. Johnson was suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules after appearing in three games for the Wildcats, scoring just one point and grabbing two rebounds. A native of New York, Johnson could logically look for his next stop to be closer to home. Johnson was a top 100 rated recruit coming out of Wadleigh High School in Brooklyn. Expect a number of Big East schools to get involved. Providence and St. John’s were finalists in Johnson’s original recruitment and he held offers from Seton Hall and West Virginia per Rivals.com.
News and Notes
- It was reported here in the last edition that 6’6″ forward Andrew White (’12 – Miller School – VA; Ranks – Rivals: 56, ESPN 51) was getting ready to announce his college choice. He did so last Friday and went all Rock Chalk Jayhawk, choosing Kansas over Cincinnati, Georgetown and North Carolina State.
- Tadric Jackson (’14 – 6’2″ – shooting guard – Tift County H.S. – GA; Ranks – Rivals: 13, ESPN N/R) who holds a number of major offers from southern schools has seen his recruitment expand geographically into the Big East footprint as he received an offer from Connecticut and is in the crosshairs of Georgetown according to Hoopnicks.com.
- Another coveted class of 2014 target, Chris McCullough (6’8″ – power forward – Salisbury School – CT; Ranks – Rivals: 13, ESPN 11) also finds his list of suitors growing. DePaul is now in the mix and was in attendance at a recent game per Alex Kline via Twitter (@TheRecruitScoop) along with Connecticut. The Huskies, along with Providence and St. John’s have offered. Pittsburgh and Rutgers are involved as well.
- In one of the most anticipated early prep matchups of the year, Tilton (NH) went up against South Kent (CT) on Sunday. Providence signee Ricardo Ledo led South Kent to a 73-63 victory with 34 points in a game that featured many high-profile recruits such as Nerlens Noel, Wayne Selden, Goodluck Okonoboh and Chris Thomas being watched by the likes of Florida, Connecticut, Providence, Iowa State, Georgetown and more.
