Here’s the RTC Top 25 for Week Two of the season.  Please note that these games do not include any Monday results.

QnD Analysis.

  • The unanimous #1 team in the nation remains Duke. The Blue Devils crushed their first three opponents in convincing fashion, but they’ll run into their first stiff test of the year in Kansas City. After a clash with underrated Marquette, Duke faces either fellow top-10 squad Kansas State or a talented Gonzaga team. It’s unlikely the Blue Devils fall in either of these contests, but they could certainly get a game. Joining Duke at the top is Ohio State, who jumped from #3 to #2 following their second half undressing of Florida in Gainesville. Pittsburgh also climbed a spot to #4 after emerging victorious in the 2K Sports Classic.
  • Three teams that jumped a handful of spots are Georgetown, San Diego State and Minnesota. The Hoyas won the Charleston Classic over the weekend, beating Coastal Carolina, Wofford and NC State behind stellar guard play. The Aztecs collected a huge road win at Gonzaga behind a heroic performance from Billy White. But the most impressive team this week has to be Minnesota. The Gophers beat Western Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia, three teams that will be dancing in March. As if the Big Ten needed to be any more challenging.
  • The ACC has one representative in the entire top 25: Duke. North Carolina‘s 1-2 performance in Puerto Rico and Virginia Tech‘s uninspiring loss at Kansas State knocked both schools out. NC State also blew a chance to be ranked by falling to Georgetown. Florida State may be the closest squad to earning a spot in the rankings.
  • Variance. There is some discrepancy between the voters with regards to Illinois. The Fighting Illini fell to Texas in overtime before sneaking past Maryland to finish in third place at the 2K Sports Classic. The Illini range from #14 to unranked. Butler‘s situation is similar. The Bulldogs were humbled at Louisville and clearly were penalized by the voters to varying degrees.
  • Conference CallBig Ten (6), Big 12 (5), Big East (4), SEC (2), MWC (2), ACC (1), Pac-10 (1), Atlantic 10 (1), Horizon (1), C-USA (1), WCC (1).
