Checking in on the… Patriot League

Posted by rtmsf on January 23rd, 2009

Marty Leon is the RTC correspondent for the Patriot League.

Before we get to what is happening in our league, how about this proposal?

Name of Event: President Obama’s Ivy vs. Patriot League Challenge – The President’s Cup!!!

Where: The natural host would be American Univ., in the hometown of our hoop-loving President.

Why: To celebrate the finest student athletes in  the land.  Obama attended Harvard and Columbia and is the Commander in Chief of West Point (Army) and Navy.  This setting could be used to promote scholarship, athletics, and service for all young people to our country.  It would be a great way to showcase these conferences of the highest academic standards in the  USA!!

When: 2009 Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving

Friday Games

  1. Harvard vs. Navy
  2. Columbia vs. Army
  3. Penn vs. American
  4. Princeton vs. Lehigh
  5. Brown vs. Holy Cross
  6. Cornell vs. Colgate
  7. Yale vs. Lafayette
  8. Dartmouth vs. Bucknell

Saturday Games

  1. Harvard vs. Army
  2. Columbia vs. Navy
  3. Penn vs. Lehigh
  4. Princeton vs. American
  5. Brown vs. Colgate
  6. Cornell vs. Holy Cross
  7. Yale vs. Bucknell
  8. Dartmouth vs. Lafayette

Whichever conference wins the most games receives the President’s Cup. This should be an annual event!!

American alone on top of league at 3-0

As excpected Jeff Jones’ squad is out of the gate, ahead of the pack already.  Navy and Holy Cross are right behind at 3-1. The surprises are Lehigh struggling at 1-3, and Colgate with two wins and who is facing Bucknell this weekend.  The Bisons had an upset W over Lafayette, the chameleon of this conference.

Patriot Prognostications

RTC will predict the winners of conference games all season long. At this point Marty Leon is at 10-5.

This weekend he likes Lehigh, American, Colgate and Navy!!!

Marty Leons Patriot Prognostications (YTD 11-8)

  1. American at Navy- after both lost last week this game is HUGE!! WE go with Navy as they are tougher mentally and physically.
  2. Bucknell at Lehigh- Lehigh coming off a good win at Lafayette is getting it together.  Bucknell with two league wins already has coach of the year candidate in Dave Paulsen. We’ll still take Lehigh.
  3. Colgate at Holy Cross- The Cross is rolling; it should be a blowout.
  4. Lafayette at Army- It’s anyone’s guess how Lafayette will play. We take Army with momentum after the upset of Navy.

Please check above and let us know your thought’s on the Obama Challenge!!!!

Colgate Over North Carolina!!!!!

HOW- BC beats UNC- Harvard beats BC- Dartmouth beats Harvard- Colgate has beaten Dartmouth!!

Marty Leon’s Patriot Prognostications (YTD 14-9) for Weekend of 01.31.09

  1. Holy Cross at Lehigh– I like Lehigh starting to gain momentum.
  2. Lafayette at American– American beating a listless Lafayette.
  3. Bucknell at Army– Jim Crews’ warriors win third in a row!!
  4. Navy at Colgate– Red Raiders shock an unfocused Navy in a yawner, in snowy Hamilton.

Marty Leon’s Patriot Prognostications (YTD 16-11) for 02.04.09

  1. Bucknell at Colgate- The Gate needs a win, they will get it tonight.
  2. Army at American– After three W’s in a row they will not sneak up on American. Blowout for the Eagles.

Leon’s Leads Tom Brennan to Georgia !!!  The Current ESPN Hoop analyst and Georgia Alum could bring his Vermont Magic to Athens.

Rush the Courts Ten Reasons Why Tom Brennan Could Coach Georgia !!

  1. Graduate and former player.
  2. Great Recruiter.
  3. Will demand academic performance of players.
  4. Players coach.
  5. Turned losing Vermont team into nationally respected program.
  6. Terrific at promoting University.
  7. Never takes himself to seriously.
  8. People of Georgia would love him.
  9. Beat Syracuse.
  10. Would be a great addition to homecoming festivities.

Love this idea! It’s about time the nerdier schools got in on some cross-conference challenge action.
