West
- #15-seed Northern Colorado is in the tournament for the first time in its fifth season as a full-fledged D-I school.
- Memphis coach Josh Pastner, a former assistant and one-time walk on at Arizona, will meet his old team in the first round.
- The 8-9 matchup between Michigan and Tennessee pits two teams who seem to have alternated extended periods of success. From 1985-1996, Michigan went to three Final Fours, winning the national championship in 1989, but this is just their second tournament berth since 1998. In the same stretch, Tennessee only cracked the field once, but has made eight tournament appearances since 1998.
- All week, Connecticut is going to face questions about fatigue from its grueling Big East Tournament run. They draw Bucknell, a team that knows a little bit about upending historical powerhouses in the dance.
- Behind hot-shooting point guard Talor Battle, ten-seed Penn State squeezed into the Tournament for the first time in ten years.
