What’s Trending: Deonte Burton’s Dunk of the Year, Jim Harbaugh, Senior Night, and More…

What’s Trending is a column examining the week that was in college basketball social media. Nick Fasulo (@nickfasuloSBN) is your weekly host.

Deonte Burton Dunk

Nevada’s Deonte Burton undoubtedly delivered the dunk of the year in college hoops. You’d probably seen it at least 15 times in the past 36 hours, but another binge watch is good for the soul.

The reaction from Twitter was swift…

Russdiculous

The latest chapter in the fantastic college career of Mr. Russell Smith was written Wednesday night, as the Cardinals’ senior guard scored 22 second half points (including six three-pointers) in a win over SMU.  Here’s to hoping the graphic below is used at the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday.

Jim Harbaugh Dressed up as Jim Harbaugh

The San Francisco 49ers head coach, who is basically a caricature of himself, made a visit to the the famed Phog Allen Fieldhouse this week to meet, greet, and motivate the current Jayhawks. He also hit a halfcourt shot. But still, though, those khakis. My goodness.

Jon Hood Is Finally a Senior

He’s played with 17 NBA players and rode the pine for the loudest and most scrutinized program in college basketball. Twenty-five years from now, if there’s a tell-all book about the John Calipari era at Kentucky, Jon Hood should be the first person interviewed.

More Senior Night

Here’s some other great Senior Night shots. Click any of the thumbnails below to be taken to the tweet from which the picture was pulled from.

Michigan Oscars Selfie

This was inevitable… a sports team playing off of what the 2014 Oscars will forever be remembered for. Nik Stauskas as Bradley Cooper? Totally get that. Zac Irvin as Ellen? Sure why not. Mitch McGary as the lovely Jennifer Lawrence? Enlighten me, please.
