Here we go with Week 4’s Blogpoll…
Some quick thoughts:
- Motility. UConn moved up one spot to #2 by virtue of their big OT win in Washington state last weekend. Duke (+5) and Georgetown (+5) were the beneficiaries of losses to Texas (-5) , Xavier (-7) and Gonzaga as well. Purdue (+7), Michigan St. (+6) and Clemson (+5) were also high risers. Louisville’s loss to Minnesota damn near dropped them out of the poll (-13). Two Big Ten teams, Michigan and Minnesota, were this week’s new additions.
- Variance. Wake Forest is this week’s winner with a range of #6 to #20, as there are still some questions about the validity of the Deacs’ 11-0 record. Xavier, Missouri, Baylor and Syracuse all have a pretty high degree of uncertainty from the pollsters.
- Conference Call. The Big East is still king, but the Big 10 is getting noticed. Big East (7), Big 10 (5), ACC (4), Big 12 (4), Pac-10 (2), A10 (1), SEC (1), WCC (1).

Are you joking you have 9-2 Xavier still ranked in your Top 15. Yet 10-1 Butler who has played a similar if not better schedule and smacked them in Cincinnati is not even ranked. Nice work, do you even watch basketball ?
We had Butler ranked until the loss to OSU two weeks ago. XU probably is overrated, but they do have a better resume overall.
So 2-loss Missouri gets blasted by 1-loss Illinois at a neutral site and somehow moves up from #25 to #23 while Illinois doesn't even receive a vote? How does that work?
Giddings - the blogpoll represented games through last weekend, so the Mizzou-Ill game isn't represented here. We were late getting it up this week.
Dude Butler's SOS is fifth and Xavier's is third, in fact they are as close to identical as you can get. Give it a rest not only is Xavier a little overrated, but Butler should be in your Top twenty.
well that's if you buy that the SOS ratings are legit at this point.
Besides we weren't the only ones to leave butler out. All 10 other blogpollers did likewise.
"Besides we weren’t the only ones to leave butler out. All 10 other blogpollers did likewise."
That pretty much sums it all up.
Scott--
Butler's win over Xavier came after the Blogpoll was tabulated so that game didn't factor into the rankings. At the time the rankings were done, Butler was 9-1 (loss to an underrated Ohio State team) with 2 decent, but not great wins against Cleveland State and Northwestern. Xavier was 9-1 (loss to a very highly ranked Duke team) with a good win against Cincy and a "great" win against an overrated Memphis team. I'm pretty sure when the next Blogpoll comes out Butler will be ranked and probably be above Xavier.
