Top 25 Games

  • #1 Ohio State 70, Iowa 48: “In a game apparently sponsored by Pillsbury, Ohio State forced 23 turnovers while committing 20 themselves but still had more than enough to bake the Hawkeyes 70-48 tonight in an all-too-empty Value City Arena.” (Eleven Warriors)
  • #10 Texas 81, #11 Texas A&M 60: “In what has become a series completely dominated by the home team, it was the Longhorns turn to shine on Wednesday night. Texas throttled Texas A&M and cruised to an impressive 81-60 victory at the Erwin Center. With the win, the ‘Horns improve to 15-3 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12. The loss breaks the Aggies’ 13 game winning streak and drops A&M to 3-1 in conference.” (Burnt Orange Nation)
  • #14 Purdue 63, Penn State 62: “Matty’s teams have been resilient and had short memories since he came to Purdue. But, tonight’s game might turn out to be one of the most-important of the season…a turning point of sorts. I think they really needed this win especially going into the sizable MSU game on Saturday with ESPN’s Gameday in town and Sparty needing a win after their loss to Illinois.” (Boiled Sports)

Other Games of Interest

  • Louisville 88, St. John’s 63: “After “The Miracle on Main” (Comeback in the Yum…Back), there was plenty of reason to be worried that this team would come out a bit flat against a solid, if not particularly sexy, opponent in St. John’s. Instead, Louisville used its best five minutes of the season as a springboard to its most complete 20-minute performance of the season.” (Card Chronicle)
  • St. Louis 68, Fordham 55: ” St. Louis was dominant the last ten minutes of the game. The Billikens pulled away in the stretch defeating Fordham 68-55 at the Izod Center on Wednesday.” (Villanova by the Numbers)

Pre-Game Analysis

  • Virginia Tech at Maryland: “Tomorrow’s showdown between Virginia Tech and Maryland in the Comcast Center is huge for both teams. Their resumes are surprisingly similar, with mediocre overall records (Maryland 10-6, VT 11-5) and each lacking a really impressive win despite a few close calls. In fact, a win here would go a long ways for the tournament hopes for either side.” (Testudo Times: Part 1 and Part 2)
  • Cal at UCLA: “Pauley reconstruction issues, football coaching chaos, the events of an early December weekend, have all made it  tough to be a UCLA sports fan for a while.  But things may be looking up.  If our basketball team can win these next two games, we will be in second place in the PAC 10 and  on the way to the goal of making the tournament.” (Bruins Nation)

News/Analysis

  • Texas Longhorns TV Network: UT Inks $300M Deal With ESPN: Some early details on the deal that has fans of other teams up in arms. (Burnt Orange Nation)
  • Video: Maurice Creek talks about knee injury: “Indiana sophomore guard Maurice Creek met with the media earlier today at Assembly Hall to discuss the stress fracture he suffered in his right patella during Saturday’s 80-61 win over Michigan.” (Inside the Hall)
  • Syracuse vs. Villanova: Breaking Records Without Even Trying: “Take it as a compliment, Villanova. Every time you come to the Dome, we show up in record numbers to watch the Orange beat you.” (Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician)
  • Syracuse vs. Villanova: It Goes Without Saying, You Will Wear Orange: Some early instructions for Syracuse fans before the big game on Saturday. (Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician)
  • UCLA Cuts Donation Requirements For Season Seats Post-Renovation: “One of the chief concerns with the Pauley Pavilion renovation when it was announced was what some considered a steep increase in the amount a Bruin must donate to retain their season tickets to Bruin basketball games in the new Pauley Pavilion. It’s been a while since the plans were first announced, but it looks like the Morgan Center has responded to some of that grumbling.” (Bruins Nation)
