RTC Live is back with another full slate of games tonight. From Ann Arbor to South Bend to Moraga, we’ll be bringing you coverage from around the country as the ESPN 24 Hours of Hoops Marathon tips off this evening. Notre Dame has some work to do to replace the pieces it lost from last season’s surprisingly good team, but Mike Brey is masterful at turning water to wine; join us this evening from the Joyce Arena as ND will face a sturdy challenge from Detroit, after the jump.
Game 11: Notre Dame will host Detroit Mercy to begin the Progressive CBE Classic tonight. Both teams enter the game coming off season opening victories. The Irish were 80-67 winners over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday. The Titans were 95-57 winners over Lake Erie on Friday night. Notre Dame will be without the services of senior Tim Abromaitis for the second consecutive game, as he is sitting out an NCAA-imposed four game suspension. Without Abromaitis, the Irish are led by sophomore point guard Eric Atkins and senior forward Scott Martin. Atkins netted a career-best 27 points in the season opener. The Titans are led by their own sophomore star guard Ray McCallum. Last season’s Horizon League Newcomer of the Year is among the best talents at the mid-major level with the ability to score while possessing the instincts of a true point guard. Titans senior guard Chase Simon is also a player to watch, as he possesses a natural knack for scoring. The game should be a great early season test for both teams, in that it should serve as a measuring stick for both programs in the early going.
