Tucked away, within the second-to-last sentence of the preview of his team in this week’s Sports Illustrated,  Pittsburgh guard Ashton Gibbs flashed a little bit of braggadaccio. “We’re good enough to win a national title,” the 6’2” senior told SI‘s Rebecca Shore when she asked about the collection of talent on the Panthers’ roster. And although it’s still very early, after last night’s 86-76 loss to a veteran Long Beach State team, that bold claim looks quite a bit bolder. Of course, when Gibbs gave that quote, the season hadn’t even started yet and coach Jamie Dixon is looking to him [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2011/11/17/jumping-to-conclusions-why-pittsburgh-is-overrated-for-now/feed/ 0 Where 2011-12 Happens: Reason #9 We Love College Basketball http://rushthecourt.net/2011/10/28/where-2011-12-happens-reason-9-we-love-college-basketball/ http://rushthecourt.net/2011/10/28/where-2011-12-happens-reason-9-we-love-college-basketball/#respond Fri, 28 Oct 2011 13:00:26 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=40607

Pittsburgh comes into the season as a borderline top 10 team, but they may have some work to do in the early part of the season as senior Nasir Robinson will be out for 3-4 weeks after undergoing surgery on his right knee. Even though this is Robinson’s second surgery on that knee the team is not ruling out the possibility that he could return in time to play the season-opener against Albany on November 11. Even if Robinson returns at that time it is unlikely that he will be at 100%, which will mean more work for a front line that no longer [...]]]>

A Look Back

The Big East seems like it is beginning to break into three groups at the top. You have the contenders at the top in Pitt and Syracuse, then you have a second tier of Villanova and UConn.

Beyond that, you may as well start flipping a coin.

Right now, Louisville and West Virginia look to be the best of the rest. This comes a week after Notre Dame and Georgetown looked like they were the best of the rest. Marquette is good enough [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2011/01/18/checking-in-on-the-big-east-28/feed/ 0 Checking in on… the Big East http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/07/checking-in-on-the-big-east-24/ http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/07/checking-in-on-the-big-east-24/#respond Wed, 08 Dec 2010 05:36:01 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=28671
