Stanford and California met last night in the regular season finale for both teams, and Stanford surprised all with a 13-point road upset of the Golden Bears. The Cardinal outplayed Cal on both sides of the floor, but shooting the ball at a 53% clip from behind the arc is what got it done for Stanford. With 5:05 remaining, a massive skirmish that took over 20 minutes to sort out took place. At the end of it all, players Gabriel Harris and Richard Solomon were both ejected, while four Stanford assistant coaches and one California assistant coach were tossed as [...]]]>

When Stanford celebrates its Senior Day today, we’re not going to be saying goodbye to multiple all-conference type players. Instead the crowd at Maples Pavilion will be saluting a guy who has averaged roughly 10 minutes per outing in the 81 games he’s played for Johnny Dawkins, scoring a grand total of just 157 points over four years. But for the Cardinal’s lone senior, Gabriel Harris and his family, that isn’t going to make it any less special.

As we go to wind down our coverage of the Stanford basketball program, we head back to Adam Butler of Pachoops for his perspective on the Cardinal basketball program. Adam and I go over every pressing topic surrounding the team’s immediate future, including how they plan on replacing three key seniors and expectations for sophomore-to-be extraordinaire, Chasson Randle. Here’s our conversation:

RTC: How do the Cardinal replace players like Josh Owens, Jarrett Mann, and Andrew Zimmerman?

AB: First of all, you don’t replace an Andrew Zimmerman. Beards like that don’t come around often, but when they do, they’re irreplaceable. On the court, however, Mann and [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2012/07/22/stanford-week-qa-with-pachoops-adam-butler/feed/ 0 How Good is Stanford? http://rushthecourt.net/2011/12/17/how-good-is-stanford/ http://rushthecourt.net/2011/12/17/how-good-is-stanford/#respond Sat, 17 Dec 2011 17:55:39 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=52215

Last season, Stanford was a pretty bad basketball team. They had all kinds of trouble scoring, especially early in the season, and weren’t much to look at defensively either. And given that it was one of the least experienced teams in the country (with an average of 1.15 years of experience, good for 315th in the nation, according to Ken Pomeroy), that wasn’t really much of a surprise. The constant theme around the Cardinal program was that this team’s best days were in the future. Well, a year later, minus Jeremy Green, the team’s leading scorer in 2010-11 who gave [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2011/12/17/how-good-is-stanford/feed/ 0 Checking in on… the Pac-10 http://rushthecourt.net/2010/11/25/checking-in-on-the-pac-10-14/ http://rushthecourt.net/2010/11/25/checking-in-on-the-pac-10-14/#comments Fri, 26 Nov 2010 04:19:37 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=27816

A Look Back

After a disappointing season last year when the conference needed a late Washington rally to qualify just two teams to the NCAA Tournament, the Pac-10 was looking to get off to a faster start this season, but with early results in, the reviews are definitely a mixed bag. While four of the conference teams remain undefeated, conference favorite Washington limped home to a 4th place finish in the Maui Invitational and the bottom of the conference is littered with embarrassing losses, such [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2010/11/25/checking-in-on-the-pac-10-14/feed/ 2
