This Weekend’s Lede. Every Week a Playoff… Until It Isn’t. No matter your opinion on whether Oklahoma State or Alabama should have the right to play LSU for the BCS national championship next month, can we at least come to an agreement that college football’s tired meme of “every week a playoff” has once again been blown out of the water as farcical? Look, we all know that the NCAA Tournament system is far from perfect in terms of anointing the best team as the champion, but like every other major American sport, at least every team that has a [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2011/12/05/atb-weekend-edition-a-davis-boeheim-tu-big-eastsec-dundafied/feed/ 0 It’s a Love/Hate Relationship: Volume IV http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/28/its-a-lovehate-relationship-volume-iv/ http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/28/its-a-lovehate-relationship-volume-iv/#respond Tue, 28 Dec 2010 20:39:20 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=29917

The Five Things I Loved This Week

I LOVED…..a monster throwdown over a brave defender. Too often these days the defensive player gets out of the way, fearful of ending up on the wrong end of an ESPN Top Ten nominee. But not Georgetown sophomore Hollis Thompson. He stood tall in the paint and boldly said “Posterize me,” to Memphis’ D.J. Stephens, who replied, “As you wish” [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/28/its-a-lovehate-relationship-volume-iv/feed/ 0 ATB: A Turkey Ends Holiday Hoops Week http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/24/atb-a-turkey-ends-holiday-hoops-week/ http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/24/atb-a-turkey-ends-holiday-hoops-week/#respond Fri, 24 Dec 2010 10:10:15 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=29772

The Lede.  ‘Twas the night before Christmas Eve (Christmas Adam, so they say), and all through the land, not a creature was shooting.  Well, that’s not completely true.  Actually, it’s not true at all, as the week of Holiday Hoops finished strong tonight.  There were several good games, some excellent performances and even an ugly incident in Oahu for our enjoyment this evening.  The schedule reduces to nearly nothing the next few days — four games in Cancun on Friday, four games in Honolulu on Saturday, two random games on Sunday — and that’s fine.  Christmas is for [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/24/atb-a-turkey-ends-holiday-hoops-week/feed/ 0 Checking in on… Conference USA http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/15/checking-in-on-conference-usa-19/ http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/15/checking-in-on-conference-usa-19/#respond Wed, 15 Dec 2010 20:01:13 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=29213

A Look Back

Tiger Attrition: Since the Tigers lost to Kansas last week, Josh Pastner has had to deal with a slew of personnel matters. Forward Wesley Witherspoon underwent surgery for a right knee cartilage tear on Friday and will be sidelined for the next five weeks of the season. Witherspoon is currently the team’s leading scorer and has begun rehabilitation already. The coaching staff hopes to have him back in time for the Tigers’ game against Marshall on January 15. He suffered the injury on November 17 against Northwestern [...]]]>
