Syracuse Post-Standard: Whatever the Post-Standard is paying Patrick Stevens, it isn’t enough because here’s his exhaustive list of ACC Tournament seeding scenarios. Some of those are simple (notably, the bottom four teams). Pittsburgh has the most to prove in its last two games with a possibility of a seed anywhere from sixth to tenth depending on what happens around the league. The most important battle, though, is for the last double-bye. Notre Dame, Duke and Virginia are already locked in, but Louisville and North Carolina are battling for the final spot. The Cardinals control their own destiny (North Carolina’s only remaining game is home [...]]]>

The hits just keep coming for Providence. After dealing with issues related to injuries, suspensions, and eligibility in the past few years, the Friars will now have to deal with the loss of Rodney Bullock to a knee injury. Bullock injured his knee in practice last week, but the school is still awaiting additional tests to see how long he will be out. You may remember Bullock from his suspension (along with Brandon Austin) a year ago on accusations of sexual assault. Austin transferred to Oregon where he was kicked out after another charge of sexual assault. Northeastern‘s hopes of rebounding [...]]]>

At this point it seems like the NCAA is just trolling us (ok, we passed that point long ago). The latest outrage is over the NCAA giving Pe’Shon Howard a hardship waiver enabling him to play at USC this season as the result of his grandmother battling an undisclosed form of cancer. Now very few people would raise strenuous objection to the NCAA’s waiver (ok, maybe those who feel that the NCAA hands them out too freely), but this comes at a particularly bad time as it was just last week that news came out the NCAA had denied another player a [...]]]>

Big East Burning Question: Are Syracuse And Jim Boeheim Really Overrated? http://rushthecourt.net/2013/01/15/big-east-burning-question-are-syracuse-and-jim-boeheim-really-overrated/ http://rushthecourt.net/2013/01/15/big-east-burning-question-are-syracuse-and-jim-boeheim-really-overrated/#comments Tue, 15 Jan 2013 17:59:16 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=84684

We are admittedly well late to the party with this question, but amidst all of the fawning articles and celebratory columns remarking on the incredible 900 wins that Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim has amassed, there was one turd in the punch bowl — CBS Sports college basketball analyst and noted Syracuse agitator Doug Gottlieb. Gottlieb has contended for quite some time that Boeheim is a great coach, but not an “elite” coach, especially when compared to some of his contemporaries who have had more success in the NCAA Tournament such as Tom Izzo and Jim Calhoun. Now its true that Gottlieb has [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2013/01/15/big-east-burning-question-are-syracuse-and-jim-boeheim-really-overrated/feed/ 1 Big East M5: 01.03.13 Edition http://rushthecourt.net/2013/01/03/big-east-m5-01-03-13-edition/ http://rushthecourt.net/2013/01/03/big-east-m5-01-03-13-edition/#respond Thu, 03 Jan 2013 12:45:32 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=85161

With Syracuse’s 78-53 takedown of Rutgers at the Carrier Dome last night, Jim Boeheim took sole ownership of second place on the Division I all-time wins list with 903 victories, passing Bob Knight. These first few months of the season have been eventful for Boeheim, whose ascent up this list has been the focus of tremendous media attention and occasional scrutiny this season. In weighing in on Boeheim’s ranking among the greatest coaches of all-time, Rob Dauster notes the affect that a single Keith Smart jumper has had on Boeheim’s perception. If that shot doesn’t fall, Boeheim is two wins ahead [...]]]>

With all due respect to the legions of legendary players the Big East has produced in its storied history, the Big East has always been a coach’s league.  This makes perfect sense given that the conference was conceived by, and molded through the eyes of a coach.  It was the vision of that coach which propelled the Big East and college basketball to new heights beginning in the early 1980s.  The Mount Rushmore of the Big East resides in its foundation and backbone.  In many ways these are the four fathers of the conference.  They all made long-term and lasting [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2012/02/22/big-east-mount-rushmore/feed/ 0 An Exhaustive List Of Reactions To The Bernie Fine Allegations http://rushthecourt.net/2011/11/22/an-exhaustive-list-of-reactions-to-the-bernie-fine-allegations/ http://rushthecourt.net/2011/11/22/an-exhaustive-list-of-reactions-to-the-bernie-fine-allegations/#respond Tue, 22 Nov 2011 14:20:47 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=47718

Allegations that Syracuse assistant coach Bernie Fine molested two former ball boys have been in the news cycle for nearly a week now. Just enough time for interested media outlets to scour the country asking anyone and everyone who has connections to the Syracuse basketball program what they thought about Fine and his alleged misdeeds.

Fine Remains at the Center of This Controversy

Yeah, like most everyone else, we’re equally in awe of what Carolina has been able to do thus far in the season.  We are on record saying that the Heels wouldn’t be able to get through a pretty tough first month of the season without taking an L due to the loss of Marcus Ginyard and Tyler Hansbrough to injuries, and we couldn’t have been more wrong.  The Heels have been nothing short of awesome through the first quarter of the regular season, beating eight opponents (two of which were in the preseason top 10) by an average of [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2008/12/07/unc-lets-not-go-sucking-each-others-redacted-just-yet/feed/ 8
