Cincinnati basketball has grown so predictable that even trying to analyze this team has become comical; it’s almost easier to just copy and paste the same analysis from the year before. This season exhibits all the hallmarks of another stereotypical year with Mick Cronin’s Bearcats. It starts with questions about how the Bearcats are going to score points and he responds by brushing the inquiries aside as if they will seem silly once the games begin. When the season actually arrives, Cincinnati wins a bunch of games thanks to its elite defense, rebounding and above-average athleticism, but those persistent questions about offense prove legitimate as the [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2015/01/15/its-well-past-time-for-cincinnati-to-find-a-shooter/feed/ 0 Checking in on… the Big East http://rushthecourt.net/2010/01/15/checking-in-on-the-big-east-17/ http://rushthecourt.net/2010/01/15/checking-in-on-the-big-east-17/#comments Fri, 15 Jan 2010 21:56:30 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=15603

Let me paint you a picture.

Pitt is loaded. They have the Big East player in the post, an all-conference 20 PPG scorer on the wing, and a senior leader at the point running the show. They have depth, balance, quality role players, and one of the most unappreciated coaches in the game.

That was last season.

This season its a different story.

Here we are on the brink of Big East play. What does that mean? MID-SEASON AWARD TIME!!!

Co-Players of the Year: Da’Sean Butler, West Virginia and Wes Johnson, Syracuse

Depending on who you ask, these two are in the mix for the national player of the year. Butler (16.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.8 apg) has been the best player for West Virginia, even sliding over and playing some point guard in the past few games as Joe Mazzulla works [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/12/30/checking-in-on-the-big-east-15/feed/ 6 Checking in on… the Big East http://rushthecourt.net/2009/12/17/checking-in-on-the-big-east-14/ http://rushthecourt.net/2009/12/17/checking-in-on-the-big-east-14/#respond Fri, 18 Dec 2009 04:06:30 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=14167

You all were waiting for it.  And it finally happened.

You may not have noticed due to the beer and football induced stupor you were in on Sunday, but the Big East had a pretty rough weekend. Louisville, Providence, DePaul, Notre Dame, Villanova, Cincinnati and Marquette all lost as the Big East went 7-7 over the course of Saturday and Sunday. That’s seven losses in two days from a league that had 20 losses over the first month of the season.  Throw [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/12/17/checking-in-on-the-big-east-14/feed/ 0 Checking in on… the Atlantic 10 http://rushthecourt.net/2009/12/16/checking-in-on-the-atlantic-10-15/ http://rushthecourt.net/2009/12/16/checking-in-on-the-atlantic-10-15/#respond Wed, 16 Dec 2009 19:17:31 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=14084

It is time to stop talking about the Big East as the best conference in college hoops. In the current installment of Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology, the Big East is getting seven teams in. That’s one fewer than the ACC and one more than the Pac-10. In fact, if we are talking in terms of percentage of league members to get a bid, the Big East slides all the way down to fourth as the Big Televen sends five teams.

We are just a week into Big East play, and it is already obvious how much fun this conference is going to be. UConn was supposed to be the best team in the country outside of UNC, but the Huskies lost their Big East opener to Georgetown. At home. And loss isn’t quite the right word. Embarrassed is better. The Big East lost three of their four marquee games this week as Notre Dame lost to Ohio State and West Virginia and Villanova were swept in the Jimmy V Classic (Marquette did pick up a win at home against Wisconsin). Even teams like UConn (four point win over Buffalo) and Syracuse (came back from down 16 against Cornell) barely avoided being upset. Right now, the only team that is playing well and has played well through out the season is Pitt.

The Big East is proving why it is the best conference in basketball, as the 16 teams in the conference have lost a grand total of five games. I mean, Seton Hall barely sneaks into the top 10 in the conference and they are 4-1 with wins over USC and Virginia Tech early on.
