On Monday, we brought you a list of under-the-radar O26 players primed for big seasons in 2016-17. This time around, we’re examining several programs on the cusp of making serious moves upward, either within their respective conferences or on the postseason stage.

Cal State Northridge – 2015-16 Record: 10-20 (5-11 Big West): Cal State Northridge (CSUN) may not have been very good last season, but it was certainly better after Kendall Smith became eligible in December. The UNLV transfer led the club in scoring (15.3 PPG) and was among the league’s best at drawing fouls. He, along with the team’s next [...]]]>

Last Thursday, you may have remembered our Pac-12 Hoops Pick’Em that got underway in our M5. We’re back at it again this week, this time with a full post to go over the results from last week and to look ahead as well. Parker and I stole the show in week one, going a solid 11-2 to take a one-game advantage over Drew and Adam. I was the only one to miss Utah’s road win at Texas State on Friday night, but I came back to the field with Wyoming’s upset of Colorado. We mentioned yesterday how a pair of recent departures from UCLA will hurt the Bruins this season, but we didn’t even begin to look at how it can hurt recruiting in the years to come. This LA Times article discusses exactly that, along with getting a feel for the overall temperature of the program. Ben Howland has lost 11 players in the past four years, a staggering number even in the state of mass transfer that college hoops is in today. The departures haven’t appeared to hurt Howland in recruiting (obviously, as he brought in one of the top classes in the nation this [...]]]>

There are seven teams from other conferences across the country that will have three different Pac-12 teams on their schedule this year. While fans of Pac-12 schools will likely be rooting against these seven teams in those games against conference foes, whenever these schools face other teams from other conferences, it will be in the best interest of the league as a whole to have these seven teams win as much as possible. We all know the RPI may be a flawed metric, but it is a metric that the selection committee uses in one form or another to help [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2012/10/29/honorary-pac-12-members-for-2012-13/feed/ 0 Big West Tournament Preview & Season Wrap-Up http://rushthecourt.net/2012/03/08/big-west-tournament-preview-season-wrap-up/ http://rushthecourt.net/2012/03/08/big-west-tournament-preview-season-wrap-up/#comments Thu, 08 Mar 2012 18:46:49 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=65004

League Wrap-Up

By and large, the Big West wound up largely like the preseason prognosticators predicted. Long Beach State dominated with their senior-laden team, winning 15 straight in conference play before Cal State Fullerton tripped them up. CSF was probably the biggest surprise and also most improved over the season, as coach Bob Burton pulled together his team of transfers and formed an offensive powerhouse. UCSB once again had a slightly disappointing conference season, [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2012/03/08/big-west-tournament-preview-season-wrap-up/feed/ 1 Checking In On… The Big West http://rushthecourt.net/2012/02/25/checking-in-on-the-big-west-13/ http://rushthecourt.net/2012/02/25/checking-in-on-the-big-west-13/#respond Sat, 25 Feb 2012 15:30:47 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=62783
