I’m proud to re-introduce a feature here at Rush the Court – the RTC Blogpoll.

From November through March during the college hoops season, check back here every Monday for the rankings of our four main scribes- myself, rtmsf, nvr1983 and jstevrtc- combined into one, fantastic Top 25 ranking. Take that, AP and coaches!  The aggegrate of our own internal poll will constitute what we submit to the larger national Blogpoll each week.

Once again I had trouble with coming up with an order for these teams because they keep on losing games they shouldn’t. I feel like it’s easy to classify them into groups, but hard to differentiate within those groups outside of the top 10. Anyways, leave your praise or criticism in the comment section.

This week’s poll was tough because so many top 25 teams lost and it’s kind of hard to compare the relative strength/weakness of each loss. I also wasn’t sure what to do with Marquette. I dropped them quite a bit because of the loss of Dominic James, but I came away impressed after watching their loss at Louisville particularly with Jerel McNeal having an awful day.

It has been difficult to rank teams this year because it seems like there isn’t any consistency among the top 25 teams outside of the top 5 or 6, which have been consistently good lately (with an occasional off-night, which I’m willing to give college kids. As a member of the CBB Blogpoll, we’ve been asked to join the weekly roundtable, where we’ll be answering a series of questions about the state of the season.  A Sea of Blue is this week’s host – be sure to stop by over there to see some of the other blogs’ answers (ed. note: we tried and failed to keep our eyes on our own paper).

Who really looks like the best team in college basketball this season?

On “look” alone, it has to be Pittsburgh.  The Panthers have only sustained two losses, and in [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/02/19/blogpoll-roundtable-021909/feed/ 2 This Week’s RTC Blogpoll http://rushthecourt.net/2009/02/16/this-weeks-rtc-blogpoll/ http://rushthecourt.net/2009/02/16/this-weeks-rtc-blogpoll/#comments Mon, 16 Feb 2009 06:12:56 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=4852

As part of the new Blogpoll, we’ll be posting our poll on RTC.net that will then be used to create a composite Blogpoll that will be released at a later date. I’m pretty sure this is how it is supposed to work, but if it isn’t this post will probably disappear pretty quickly.

This week was a rather difficult one to rank teams since so many of the top 25 teams lost to teams they probably shouldn’t have. As always, I’m open to your suggestions. Here we go (through Mon. night’s games)…

Some very quick analysis:

Hits and Misses.  In our ballot, we had Cal, Dayton and St. Mary’s in the lower reaches of the poll in lieu of WVU, Gonzaga and Illinois.  Variance.   West Virginia, Syracuse and Gonzaga had the most variability amongst bloggers this week.  Guess we’re responsible for some of that by not ranking WVU and GU.  Don’t understand no love for the Cuse, though.  They look good.  Conference Call.  As usual, the Beast of the East leads the way.  Big East (8), ACC (5), Big 10 (4), Big 12 (2), Pac-10 (2), A10 (1), Horizon [...]]]>

Here’s this week’s blogpoll.  Keep in mind that the votes were tallied including games through Monday night only…

Quick Observations.

The Harder They Fall. UConn (-4), Ohio St. (-8), Gonzaga (-8) and Xavier (-4) took big hits this week (and Gonzaga is due to take another).   Georgetown (+3) made the biggest jump by virtue of its manhandling of UConn on Monday night, although several other teams had +3 jumps in the middle of the pack as well. Variance. Baylor and Memphis, with Ohio St. and Syracuse following, are the four teams that the bloggers had the most trouble agreeing [...]]]>

Here we go with Week 4’s Blogpoll…

Some quick thoughts:

Motility. UConn moved up one spot to #2 by virtue of their big OT win in Washington state last weekend.  Duke (+5) and Georgetown (+5) were the beneficiaries of losses to Texas (-5) , Xavier (-7) and Gonzaga as well.  Purdue (+7), Michigan St. (+6) and Clemson (+5) were also high risers.  Louisville’s loss to Minnesota damn near dropped them out of the poll (-13).  Two Big Ten teams, Michigan and Minnesota, were this week’s new additions. Variance.  Wake Forest is this week’s winner with a range of #6 to #20, as there [...]]]>

Here it is, through Monday night’s games…

Quick Hits.

Little Movement.  The top three remain the same, and there were only four teams – Xavier, Ohio St., Tennessee, Arizona St. – who moved up or down three spots or greater this week.  Tennessee in particular got blistered by its 16-pt loss at Temple last weekend (down ten spots).  Xavier must have impressed a lot of  folks with its performance in the Crosstown Shootout on the same day. Switching Places.  Marquette and Kansas fell out of the poll this week.  11-0 Clemson and 8-1 Missouri took their spots.  We’re still not completely sold on [...]]]>

We delayed the start of the Blogpoll this year so we could get a better sense as to the first few weeks of the season, so here it is.  The blogpoll is represented through Monday night’s games (although records are current).

A Few Observations.

High Risers.  Villanova, Duke, Gonzaga, Oklahoma (all +6) and Wake Forest (+5) all rose significantly based on their unbeaten records to date.  Syracuse and Xavier, also unbeaten, both entered the poll in the mid-teens. Dropping Fast. Wisconsin and USC fell out of the poll completely, although UW still received some votes.  Otherwise, UCLA (-7), Davidson, Louisville, Michigan St. and Marquette [...]]]>

A question that’s befuddled us for a long time now has been just how accurate are all these preseason polls that every media entity puts out each year are.  Remember last season – all four NCAA #1 seeds made it to the Final Four, but what was equally interesting to us was that those same four teams – Kansas, Memphis, UCLA and UNC – were also the top four ranked teams (in a different order) in both the Preseason AP and ESPN Coaches polls.  With an n=1, we know that the 2007-08 polls were extremely accurate in predicting last year’s F4 teams, but that only [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2008/11/14/how-accurate-are-preseason-polls/feed/ 3 Preseason Blogpoll Released http://rushthecourt.net/2008/11/12/preseason-blogpoll-released/ http://rushthecourt.net/2008/11/12/preseason-blogpoll-released/#comments Wed, 12 Nov 2008 20:45:56 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=2218

We’re coming to the end of the 2008-09 preseason materials with the release of today’s Blogpoll.  Again, if you’re new to the site or simply drank away your memory in the offseason, RTC, along with a cadre of a dozen or so college hoops bloggers, misfits, rogues and malcontents submits a weekly blogpoll to Gabby at March to Madness, the chief scalawag.  He organizes and tallies everything and sends it back to us so that we can throw it up on our blogs, thereby increasing our post counts and our worthy contributions to the college basketball canon.  Some quick analysis below…

As usual, running late…

Justifying Our Ballot. We actually had to do this for the first time all season. We ranked Florida above Mississippi St. (#25 in our ballot), and one blogger took offense with this notion. His quote was, “Ranking Florida above MSU absolutely makes no sense, however. None.” So here is our carefully-worded justification:

I just think that Florida is a better team right now than MSU. In other words, on a neutral court, I think Florida wins. I think, by and large, they have better players, better coaching, and a more [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2008/01/31/blogpoll-week-12/feed/ 1
