We hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and got to indulge in turkey or whatever food you prefer while spending time with friends and/or family. There was not much off-the-court news yesterday so instead of our traditional recap where we avoid discussing the games directly we are going to provide general overviews of the games that have already happened and the ones that are on tap. Praise continues to pour in for the Duke–Kansas game, which may have been the best November college basketball game in the past few years. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst (aka LeBron’s personal biographer) called it “a candidate for [...]]]>

Each week RTC will posit a That’s Debatable question or topic that is relevant to the world of college basketball.  Sometimes whimsical, sometimes serious, we’ll post the thoughts of our core editing crew (in 200 words or less), but we’ll also be expanding to include our contributors and correspondents as appropriate throughout the season.  We also invite you, the readers, to join us as we mull over some of the questions facing the game today.  Feel free to send us your takes and/or leave them in the comments below.

It’s no secret that the high school Class of 2008 was one of the weakest in recent memory.  Coming into the 2008-09 regular season, could you realistically point to any one player who would impact their team enough to become another Derrick Rose or a Michael Beasley (class of 2007), a Greg Oden or a Kevin Durant (class of 2006)?  No way, right?  The consensus #1 player, Brandon Jennings, high-tailed it to Europe when it became apparent he wasn’t going to become eligible to play college ball at Arizona, where he proceeded to burn up foreign nets at the [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/06/30/2009-one-and-dones-was-it-worth-it/feed/ 0 Boom/Bust Cycle http://rushthecourt.net/2009/06/25/boombust-cycle/ http://rushthecourt.net/2009/06/25/boombust-cycle/#comments Thu, 25 Jun 2009 23:06:06 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=9348

It’s a little less than an hour before tonight’s NBA Draft, and this should have probably been done days ago, but we wanted to use our undeniable RTC expertise when it comes to projecting college hoops talent to the pros so we can say “told ya so” when the one undervalued player we said would be a star pans out (while the other ten we said would be don’t, but let’s not quibble).  We’ll use Andy Katz’s final mock draft from this morning, and we’re only going to evaluate college players (because we’ve seen them play for at least [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/06/25/boombust-cycle/feed/ 3 Early Entries 2009 Part 1 http://rushthecourt.net/2009/03/30/early-entries-2009-part-1/ http://rushthecourt.net/2009/03/30/early-entries-2009-part-1/#respond Tue, 31 Mar 2009 03:16:01 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=8383

Welcome back to the weekend edition of Boom Goes the Dynamite. First off I’d like to commend rtmsf for his strong work on yesterday’s BGtD. Looking Back As Lester Bangs told William Miller, “you’ll meet them all again on their long journey to the middle.” He could just as well have been talking to most of the Big Ten this season, as we now see 5 conference teams bunched up with 7 or 8 losses, all fighting for their NCAA Tournament lives. Penn State got a big boost from their ugly 38-33 victory at Illinois, then lost a winnable game at Ohio State to rejoin the masses. UNC’s Ginyard Out for the Year. No surprise here, but UNC made it official today – Marcus Ginyard’s stress fracture will keep him out of the lineup for the rest of this season.  A lot has been written about UNC missing Ginyard’s sticky defense, especially on the perimeter, but at least statistically, the Heels are playing better defense this year than last (even though it’s a marginal difference).  Where Ginyard is missed is at the three-point line, where teams are shooting a better-than-expected 32.4% against them.  As anyone who has watched this game before knows, hot three-point shooting [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/02/03/atb-ohio-st-rising/feed/ 0 Checking in on the… Big Ten http://rushthecourt.net/2009/02/03/checking-in-on-the%e2%80%a6-big-ten-4/ http://rushthecourt.net/2009/02/03/checking-in-on-the%e2%80%a6-big-ten-4/#respond Tue, 03 Feb 2009 19:30:02 +0000 http://rushthecourt.wordpress.com/?p=4357

Looking Back It’s hard to believe, but Wisconsin now sits in 9th place in the conference after losing six games in a row. There’s a lot of hemming and hawing up in the Badger State right now with some pointing to a “recruiting hiccup”, but the truth is that the Badgers have just lost a lot of close games including two overtime contests. I’ll be honest with you. This doesn’t even come close to Super Saturday from a couple weekends ago, but it’s certainly better than watching all the specials about how your retirement account fell apart this year or some mediocre college football teams play in a meaningless bowl games that nobody has ever heard of. It certainly should be enough to distract Big Ten fans away from their teams getting blown out in the bowl games. In any event it will get the rest of you ready for Dick Clark at midnight. . .
