With most conference schedules starting to get into full swing, I thought I would start doing Set Your Tivos daily with a weekend edition to cover the games on Saturday and Sunday.

7 PM – #5 UConn at #22 West Virginia on ESPNU: Just another night in the Big East for the Huskies, who responded to last week’s loss to Georgetown with a 80-49 beatdown over an exhausted Rutgers team. Tonight, Jim Calhoun’s Huskies go to Morgantown, WV to face Bob Huggins and the Mountaineers. Joe Alexander is gone, but Alex Ruoff and Da’Sean Butler have stepped up to fill the [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/01/06/set-your-tivos-010609/feed/ 0 After the Buzzer: Opening Weekend Wrap http://rushthecourt.net/2008/11/16/after-the-buzzer-opening-weekend-wrap/ http://rushthecourt.net/2008/11/16/after-the-buzzer-opening-weekend-wrap/#comments Mon, 17 Nov 2008 05:09:35 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=2280

News & Notes. First, a few notable pieces of news from the weekend.

As many as six of Arizona’s players could be ineligible for their opener Monday against Florida Atlantic in the Preseason NIT. This relates to the ‘big mistake’ that Lute Olson made by allowing a letter with his name affixed to it go out to boosters seeking financial support for a local AAU Tournament (an NCAA violation). The named players may have received impermissable expenses during this AAU event. We’re shocked, shocked we tell you, in finding Ole Miss and West Virginia (of all places) received Fs in a minority hiring report. Not sure what’s up [...]]]>

Whew. After an exhausting day trying to track the news feeds seemingly every minute to figure out who was staying and who was leaving college, we can finally take a deep breath and start to sort out what this means for all the parties involved. Of the 69 early entries of US collegians submitted to the NBA league offices last month, 35 will remain in the 2008 NBA Draft pool. Here are the 35 early entries:

Joe Alexander, West Virginia Ryan Anderson, California Darrell Arthur, Kansas D.J. Augustin, Texas Jerryd Bayless, Arizona Michael Beasley, Kansas State Mario Chalmers, Kansas Chris Douglas-Roberts, Memphis C.J. Giles, Oregon State Donte Greene, Syracuse Kalen [...]]]>

Some post-Memorial Day items of interest…

Former Georgetown guard Jeremiah Rivers will transfer to Indiana (perhaps he sees immediate PT awaiting in 2009-10?). Who’s coming back? Memphis guard Antonio Anderson, Marquette guard Jerel McNeal and Alabama guard Alonzo Gee declared their intentions to return to school, ensuring that Memphis will have at least one starter back from its national runner-up team. One intriguing name who is still undecided, WVU’s Joe Alexander, described his daily routine in Vegas getting ready for the pre-draft camp. Speaking of which, the Orlando Pre-Draft Camp begins tomorrow. Here is the list of players invited. Frank Burlison at Scout.com has [...]]]>

Bama Steele-ing for the NIT Again http://rushthecourt.net/2007/09/18/bama-steele-ing-for-the-nit-again/ http://rushthecourt.net/2007/09/18/bama-steele-ing-for-the-nit-again/#respond Tue, 18 Sep 2007 06:12:30 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/2007/09/18/bama-steele-ing-for-the-nit-again/

Quick, during which of the last two seasons did Alabama have a better record?

Before answering, fans would be wise to remember the following two facts:

1) In 05-06, the Crimson Tide overcame a midseason knee injury to big man Chuck Davis, and led by point guard Ronald Steele regrouped to a 10-6 SEC record and NCAA berth (defeating Marquette 90-85 and pushing eventual national runner-up UCLA before losing 62-59).

2) The 06-07 Tide was a chic preseason pick for the F4 and even reached a national ranking of #4 during early December. But after starting 13-1, injuries to [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2007/09/18/bama-steele-ing-for-the-nit-again/feed/ 0
