Everyone has a first memory as a fan.  Mine came in 1997, the day before my seventh birthday.  I’m sure I went to college basketball games before this, but none of them stand out.  I was in first grade, headed to the ACC Tournament championship game.  The game was between N.C. State and North Carolina.  The Wolfpack were the electric underdogs, if you can call a team that runs a modified Princeton offense electric.  They were the eighth seed in a nine-team conference, having put away Georgia Tech, Maryland and top seeded Duke in [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2010/12/15/introducing-the-acc-vault-another-great-way-to-idle-away-hours-of-your-time/feed/ 3 Boom Goes the Dynamite: 03.13.09 http://rushthecourt.net/2009/03/13/boom-goes-the-dynamite-031309/ http://rushthecourt.net/2009/03/13/boom-goes-the-dynamite-031309/#comments Fri, 13 Mar 2009 16:15:35 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=6599

Hello hoops fans, and welcome to our first weekday version of your favorite semi-live journal, Boom Goes the Dynamite.  We’re still feeling the effects of that six-overtime Goliath of a game last night, but we’re caffeinated and ready to rock with you all day while we move through what is traditionally the best day of the conference tournament weekend.  It’ll be hard to top what we saw yesterday, though.  Here are a few of the games you should be tracking; as you can see, today is an absolute blockbuster:

Team: Kentucky Wildcats

Record: 19-12 (8-8)

Preseason Expectations: The Wildcats fell into the “others receiving votes” category in both the AP and the ESPN/USA Today polls. But in a year most people predicted the SEC to be weak, Kentucky was predicted to finish third in the SEC East by most publications, and were considered a good bet to be in the NCAA tournament come March. A distant glimmer from AD Mitch Barnhart saying the Wildcats would accept an NIT bid.

Best Wins: Kentucky won the Las Vegas Invitational at the end of November, [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/03/09/daily-obituary-030909/feed/ 0 Boom Goes the Dynamite: 03.08.09 http://rushthecourt.net/2009/03/08/boom-goes-the-dynamite-030809/ http://rushthecourt.net/2009/03/08/boom-goes-the-dynamite-030809/#comments Sun, 08 Mar 2009 15:20:39 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=6132

We are finally here. Today is the last day of the college basketball regular season. What’s that? St. Mary’s didn’t get the memo? Ok, after today 99.99999% of the programs will be done with the regular season. After we attempted to write the college basketball version of War and Peace for yesterday’s Boom Goes the Dynamite, we get a little break as there aren’t quite as many high quality games today, but the ones that we do have look like they will be pretty entertaining. Here are the games that we will be following today:

Welcome back to Boom Goes the Dynamite.  It’s Noon eastern and it’s Saturday, so that means we’re affixed to the couch for the rest of the weekend.  The day gets off to a little bit of a slow start, but keep in mind that RTC Live will be coming to you from Gampel Pavilion at UConn at 2pm, and we’ll be here for the rest of the action today (all 135 games).  Let’s get it going…

12:17pm. We’re back today with another edition of BGTD. Today’s edition won’t be a long as yesterday’s BGTD because today’s games aren’t nearly as good as yesterday, but there are several worth watching. For a quick run-down of the games we’ll be focusing in on today, check out today’s Set Your Tivos. As always, you’re invited to join in on the comment section to tell me if something interesting is happen elsewhere or to correct my mistakes.

All right, now we’re talking.  We’re several games into conference play, now, and the leagues are starting to take shape.  We’ve known the fates of some teams for a long time, both the good (your Carolinas and Dukes, Oklahomas and UConns, etc), and the bad (no need to pile on, here).  The most interesting part of it all, to me, are those teams which are doing a little better than they expected and may be making tenuous hotel reservations for a very [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2009/01/28/conference-over-and-underachievers/feed/ 2 Stat Nerds of the World, Unite. http://rushthecourt.net/2008/12/29/stat-nerds-of-the-world-unite/ http://rushthecourt.net/2008/12/29/stat-nerds-of-the-world-unite/#respond Mon, 29 Dec 2008 07:24:59 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=3298

If you know anything about us here at RTC, you know that we love numbers.  We love breaking down game stats and looking for secrets in the offensive and defensive efficiency ratings that will help us better understand why Team X is playing so poorly or why Team Y is much better than their ranking.  We also love statistical oddities – little factoids of generally meaningless but still interesting data that we can bring up at RTC office parties and cocktail functions so that we’ll seem edumacated and wicked smart about the ins and outs of college basketball.  Or [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2008/12/29/stat-nerds-of-the-world-unite/feed/ 0 ATB: Is Michigan Back? http://rushthecourt.net/2008/11/21/atb-is-michigan-back/ http://rushthecourt.net/2008/11/21/atb-is-michigan-back/#comments Fri, 21 Nov 2008 06:44:44 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=2510

Game of the Night. Michigan 55, UCLA 52. Remember our stat from last week about Ben Howland’s UCLA teams going 1-2 on the eastern seaboard in his five seasons there?  After tonight’s semifinal matchup with Michigan, make that 1-3.  It’s true that his teams don’t seem to play well back east, but there’s more to it than that.  One of the few  coherent things that Vitale said during tonight’s game was that we all had rated UCLA based on Ben Howland and his ridiculous freshman class rather than the current experience and skills of players he is actually putting [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2008/11/21/atb-is-michigan-back/feed/ 4
