The Atlantic 10 regular season is winding to a close but much is still to be decided. Four teams (Dayton, VCU, Saint Joseph’s, St. Bonaventure) have a legitimate shot at taking home the crown this season, and all (save Dayton) will be fighting for their NCAA Tournament lives in the coming weeks. Before things get too tense, let’s take a look at several of the young players who have made this season in the Atlantic 10 a special one.

The “Rs” Are Out of Step

The table below shows that 12 of the conference’s 14 members have efficiency differences consistent with their conference records, but Rhode Island and Richmond have bucked that trend for different reasons. For the Rams, blame injuries, as Rhody’s roster has been a patchwork since E. C. Matthew’s season-ending injury 10 minutes into its opening game. Since then, three stalwarts — Hasan Martin, Kuran Iverson, and Jarvis Garrett — have missed at least one game each, leaving the Rams with a 5-5 record despite Dan Hurley’s efforts [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2016/02/10/checking-in-on-the-atlantic-10-71/feed/ 0 Checking In On… the Atlantic 10 http://rushthecourt.net/2016/01/27/checking-in-on-the-atlantic-10-72/ http://rushthecourt.net/2016/01/27/checking-in-on-the-atlantic-10-72/#respond Wed, 27 Jan 2016 16:42:05 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=116464

Four Thoughts About The Week of 1/18-1/24

The conference remains evenly divided between winners and losers. Individual team records and efficiency continue to be consistent. As the table below indicates, through the first 6-7 games of conference play teams with losing records show a negative efficiency difference (offensive efficiency – defensive efficiency is less than zero). Essentially the efficiency difference is reflected in the win-loss records, logical, indeed self-evident, but not always true for a conference like the Atlantic 10 which has a reputation for inconsistent and unpredictable outcomes. Through the first seven (more or less) conference games the members show the [...]]]>

Three Bids? Four Bids? If the nearly unanimous opinion leaving the Boardwalk Hall Saturday night was that Xavier was definitely “in”, the feeling was less certain as the Championship game wound toward a conclusion. Xavier looked like the January 24 edition rather than the March 10 edition. Saint Bonaventure had seized the automatic bid, had Xavier’s lackluster performance knocked them out of tournament? The Selection Committee must have liked their body of work, because Xavier drew a #10 seed in the South Region and will face fellow Midwesterner Notre Dame in the second round, while Saint Bonaventure drew the #14 seed (fitting for a team not even [...]]]> http://rushthecourt.net/2012/03/11/atlantic-10-tournament-finals-daily-diary/feed/ 0 RTC Live: Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship http://rushthecourt.net/2012/03/11/rtc-live-atlantic-10-tournament-championship/ http://rushthecourt.net/2012/03/11/rtc-live-atlantic-10-tournament-championship/#respond Sun, 11 Mar 2012 16:01:36 +0000 http://rushthecourt.net/?p=65644

It’s an old familiar name versus a new one in the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship game, as Xavier will match up against surging St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon with a guaranteed bid on the line.

Game #81. Xavier and Saint Bonaventure face off for the Atlantic 10 Tournament title in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Musketeers and Bonnies were seeded #3 and #4, respectively. Coach Rick Majerus is a Gentleman. The Saint Louis coach was as effusive in his praise of Xavier, winners over his Saint Louis team earlier today, as he was of La Salle, the Billikens quarterfinal victim on Friday. The Atlantic 10 quarterfinals will tip off Saturday between four teams that all believe they should be in the next week’s NCAA Tournament. The truth is that two, maybe three, are likely to be invited. This is no time to leave anything to chance, which is why the semifinals should be outstanding and competitive.
