More Big East than you can possibly handle. RTC Live will be in the great city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this evening for a matchup between two teams searching for elusive wins in this big-time basketball conference.
Game #65. The Marquette Golden Eagles will begin a three-game homestand when they host St. John’s on Wednesday evening. The Golden Eagles have been struggling as of late, as they stand at just 1-2 in Big East play after having dropped two consecutive contests — at Georgetown and at Syracuse. St. John’s enters at 2-2 in Big East play and fresh off an upset victory Saturday at Cincinnati. The Golden Eagles are led by senior guard Darius Johnson-Odom, who leads the team in scoring, and senior forward Jae Crowder, the team’s second leading scorer and leading rebounder. The Red Storm are led by the team’s leading scorer, freshman guard D’Angelo Harrison, and freshman swingman Moe Harkless, who does a bit of everything for the young squad. It should be an interesting game at the Bradley Center, as Marquette will look to get back on the winning track and St. John’s will look to carry the momentum they built this past Saturday.
Recap:
Marquette outscored St. John’s 52-32 in the second half Wednesday night en route to a 83-64 victory. Sophomore forward Davante Gardner led the way for the Golden Eagles with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Darius Johnson-Odom chipped in with 20 points (18 in second half) and senior forward Jae Crowder added 15 (11 in second half). St. John’s led by one at the half, but as soon as the second half began Marquette took control of the game. The second half surge was led by Gardner, Johnson-Odom and Crowder, as those three combined for 37 of the Golden Eagles’ 52 second half points. In defeat, St. John’s was led by junior forward God’sgift Achiuwa’s 20 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman swingman Moe Harkless added 17 points and six rebounds.
