Cliff Alexander Stepping out of Jahlil Okafor’s Shadow

Don’t sleep on Cliff Alexander, who is making a name for himself.

Kansas fans will enjoy watching Alexander for the one year he is on campus as he is a perfect fit for Bill Self’s high/low offense. He is tough to stop in the low post as he loves to attack the rim and uses his physicality and quick jumping ability to score with two-handed dunks or short jump hooks. After going against Alexander, Stephen Zimmerman noted, “The most difficult thing about [guarding] him is his ability to catch and slam in tipped dunks. Even when you have a body on him, it’s not enough to stop him.” Alexander has also worked hard to improve his outside shooting as his 12- to 15-foot jump shot was on display this summer in AAU play. As far as NBA potential goes, DraftExpress currently has Okafor as the top pick in the 2015 draft and Alexander at number three. Alexander has an NBA-ready body that scouts are already drooling over. He has a chiseled frame with broad shoulders and a motor that never stops. He also runs the floor with ease and sports a long 7’2” wingspan. Alexander has lived in Okafor’s shadow in Chicago for the past few years, but with a dominant senior season ahead of him, he will really start to emerge.

Coach K and Kevin Ollie Looking At Dorsey

Tyler Dorsey out of St. John Bosco (CA) is a five-star prospect in the class of 2015 who is ranked #7 overall and the #2 shooting guard in the country. Despite playing on the West Coast he has drawn interest from a few eastern powerhouse programs such as Duke and Connecticut. Both Kevin Ollie and Coach K were in attendance Saturday night in Chicago to check out Dorsey in action. While he struggled to get the ball in the basket with a 4-of-16 shooting night, his ball-handling skills and athleticism were on full display. Standing at 6’4” with long arms, Dorsey can get to the basket for an athletic finish or knock in a three from well beyond the arc. The programs that have shown the most interest in Dorsey so far are Arizona, USC, UCLA, Connecticut, Duke and Kentucky. Expect to hear a lot more from this talented Californian down the road.

Dominique Matthews Looking For Offers

Senior guard Dominique Matthews has not receivedthe fanfare that his younger brother Charles has While Charles Matthews is a five-star guard in the class of 2015 (#14 overall, #3 SG) and is being recruited by most major schools in the country, Dominique is a 6’2” three-star guard in the class of 2014 who only has offers from SMU, Toledo, Milwaukee, and Chicago State. Given his recent play to start his senior season at St. Rita’s (IL) High School there might be more offers to come. On Saturday, Matthews scored 34 points in a come-from-behind win against Gonzaga (DC) High School, which came on the heels of scoring 39 points against Cliff Alexander and Curie (IL) High School. Matthews showed off some nifty moves including an around-the-back spin move down the lane which received some “ooohs” and “aaaahs” from the crowd. While younger brother Charles recovers from an injury, the elder Matthews has picked up the scoring slack and in so doing is also trying to pick up some additional scholarship offers.
