Parrish was a punk in prison! He couldnt even handle Miami Correctional Facility, in Peru, Indiana.A medium security facility.

I went to a neighboring school (Castle) the same time as Parish and he was a stud. He was on the same team-for maybe only 1 year-as Neil Reid-the IU player choked by Bobby Knight. sad what happened to both those guys.

Parrish was a great basketball player. Coach Crews even took him into his house to try and keep him out of trouble. Toward the end of his junior season I think he was ready to move on and the coaches move on from him if my memory is correct. He did not play much in the NCAA game vs Florida State that year and it hurt us in that game. As a 14 seed we got a tough draw, Florida State in Florida, one of their best teams of all time. It’s too bad how far south Parrish fell from those great times at UE.

Parrish Casebier was one of my best memories growing up watching college basketball. I remember well that Florida State game; that was one of the greatest Florida State teams ever. I hate that he has fallen so far after having so much.

Parrish was one of the popular kids at South Spencer. He moved into South Spencer after not fitting into Heritage Hill school district. Parrish was your average kid. I sat by him in Chemistry and if people were looking at him it was because he was the class clown. He was a good time. It is a waste of potential but not due to racism in Rockport. I doubt the author of the story can find it on the map.

This is wrong… He grew up in North Spencer School Corp (Heritage Hills) where he was taunted for being black and was the only black kid in the school corporation there. He then moved to South Spencer during his Junior High time frame. He fit in better but issues and damage still lingered. Not sure how this could have been missed – it’s common knowledge.

Your facts aren’t correct. I’m from Rockport and knew Parrish well. You make it seem since he was black he struggled with Rockport, but there are many black family’s in Rockport. The only thing Parrish struggled with was telling the truth! He let so many people that helped him down, and it’s a shame you make it sound as if his childhood in Rockport led to his despicable behavior! He should be ashamed of the way he let the people who brought him up, who helped him out, and thought he was a “hero” down. I’m sure the man who brought him up is looking down from above embarrassed at the piece of crap he has become.

Very nice piece. I went to school with Parrish at Evansville and never knew about some of the challenges he faced growing up.

(If I may correct one thing, though…it’s “University of Evansville” not “Evansville University”. We get a little uptight about that.)
