RTC Live tips college basketball Saturday off with an interesting crosstown rivalry game in the District between American and Georgetown. Join us this afternoon from the Verizon Center, after the jump.

Game #53. Good afternoon, hoops fans!  We are at the Verizon Center in the nation’s capital for an intra-beltway tilt between two teams that have outperformed their preseason expectations:  the Georgetown Hoyas (ranked #16 or #17 in the country, depending on whether you trust reporters or coaches more) and the American Eagles.  Despite losing long-time starters Chris Wright and Austin Freeman, the Hoyas have played well this year, running a balanced, Princeton-infused offense, the kind where a 6’10” center (Henry Sims) can lead the team with a 33.3% assist rate.  American, meanwhile, has had to recover from the loss of star forward Vlad Moldoveanu and three other starters.  But Coach Jeff Jones has put together a squad, led by senior Charles Hinkle, that could well compete for the Patriot League title.  The big question today is whether the Eagles will be able to overcome a substantial height differential.  John Thompson III has returned to the kind of long lineup — featuring three players 6’8” or taller — that took Georgetown to the Final Four in 2007, while American starts just one player taller than 6’5”.  Join us today for our live, in-game analysis.
