Game #32. When the college basketball schedules start coming out in advance of the actual season, there probably aren’t a lot of people who skim the matchups and get all excited about a Central Michigan/Pepperdine matchup, but we’ve got an interesting matchup in Malibu on Monday night at the 2-1 Waves host the Chippewas, coming off a heartbreaking double-overtime loss to Charlotte last Tuesday. The Waves, led by first year head coach Marty Wilson, won their first two games of the season (for the first time since 1999-2000), including a six-point road victory over Arizona State, largely on the basis of their three-point shooting, as they hit eight of their 11 attempts in the ASU game, with five players knocking down at least one three. However, the Waves figure to face a stiff challenge from the Chippewas who have been led by Trey Zeigler, son of head coach Ernie Zeigler. The younger Zeigler has posted double doubles in each of CMU’s first two games, including a 22-point, 15-rebound performance in 45 minutes in the loss to Charlotte. For the Waves to have any chance to extend their record to 3-1, they’ll have to come up with some sort of answer for Zeigler.
