You do not want to be playing your best basketball in November or December. It only matters the first week of March and at that time you want to be rolling at your best. The 2008/2009 Championship team got off to a slow start and actually lost its first 2 ACC games in that season. They went on to lose in the ACC tournament and we can well remember how they ran through the NCAA “Like a hot knife through butter”

I really think that these types of wins will bode well in the future. It is easier to convince kids on things to improve on and remain hungry when you are winning in the teens instead of 20 plus point wins. Like any good book just build to the climax.

I will accept that they were not sharp at all and that UNCA played a great game, many times out-hustling the Heels. But, I would imagine that the mental/emotional strain of playing the Carrier Classic played a pretty big role in how UNC performed. I am glad they found a way to win and win decisively at that.
