I just compared the stats for Kansas for the last 3 years…you don’t know what your talking about. There was no dramatic increase is skill sets, they just got more playing time. Not only that, but those unproven starters from last year logged major minutes the year before. And just because they played on a team that went 68-6 while they rode the pine doesn’t mean they are going to be good. Case in point is the Memphis 09-10 team, which was full of senior role players who had a combined record of 104-10….they ended up in the NIT with a 24-10 record. And Memphis’s players are younger yes, but they have more experience, try seeing who has more minutes played in games……and I’m not sure how being associated with success (aka riding the bench while first rounders draft picks go win games) has anything to do with it. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong

What I meant by that was their conference affiliations. You’d be hard pressed to find a better matchup this season between two teams from non-power six leagues.
Tom, I actually think Kansas is a bit underrated. J763h648 hit the nail on the head. Bill Self will turn Thomas Robinson into a potential All-American by seasons end and the rest of the rotation will improve as well. It’s the Kansas way.

While not heavily experienced in game-time situations (apart from PG Tyshawn Taylor), the projected starting five features four juniors and senior, all of whom were constituents of campaigns with a combined 68-6 record. It’s also worth taking a look at Kansas’ track record with improving former role players’ skill sets from one season to the next. Markieff Morris, Tyrel Reed and even Marcus Morris weren’t guaranteed to be successful starters last year, as all three had ridden the pine in 09-10. As per usual, Self turned them into productive and successful starters. In contrast, Memphis’ players are younger, less experienced, and have been associated with less success than Kansas’ players. I ranked Memphis #9 in my own blog rankings because there’s definitely something to be said for talent gaining a year of experience, but I certainly agree with this article. A lot of the problems it mentions in relation to the Memphis roster don’t fade.
