General News

  • 2011 recruits on campus; Norvel Pelle in summer classes to reach eligibility: “St. John’s banner class is coming to Queens, New York, home of Union Turnpike and a short F-train ride to the bright lights of Manhattan. There’s more excitement for this banner class to hit campus than any other recent season of St. John’s basketball. Most of the players are flying in from their home cities to begin the grind of the Big East… but will all of them suit up in the red and white this fall?” (Rumble in the Garden)
  • Kentucky To Wear LeBron James Brand Next Season: “According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel Kentucky will be joining Miami University and Ohio State University as the three teams that will be wearing LeBron James branded Nike jerseys next season.” (Kentucky Sports Radio)
  • Kenner League in Review: Recapping the action from the summer league featuring several Georgetown players. (Casual Hoya: Day 3 and Day 4)

Recruiting

  • Offers Extended to Mitch McGary & TJ Warren: “Kentucky and Coach Calipari extended offers to future Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, NH) teammates Mitch McGary and TJ Warren today. Both are members of the class of 2012.” (A Sea of Blue)
  • Kasey Hill Grabs Coveted UK Offer: “We’ve talked about it here before, but the UK offer from Coach Calipari has become a sought after, ceremonious occasion reserved for only the elite of the elite. This exclusive offer has been extended to 2013 star Kasey Hill, quite possibly the next in the line of great Cal point guards.” (Kentucky Sports Radio)
  • Maryland Recruiting Recap: A recap of the committment of Seth Allen, their offers to Jake Layman,  and other news. (Testudo Times: Part 1 and Part 2)
  • Gabe York bringing his slick jumper to the Arizona Wildcats: “He’s 6-foot-1 and listed at only 170 pounds, but hot-shooting guard Gabe York out of Orange Lutheran High School (Orange, Calif.) committed to the Arizona Wildcats and Sean Miller’s basketball program Sunday afternoon, a story that first broke via Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times. He joins fellow 2012 recruit Grant Jerrett in the Wildcats’ next recruiting class.” (Arizona Desert Swarm)
  • Dominic Artis, PG, Salesian: Cal Basketball 2012 Recruiting Target: “Cal basketball might not have had the greatest recruiting year in 2011 after a fairly strong 2010 class. But Mike Montgomery could be set to rebound with some groovy looking prospects next season. Restocking the point becomes critical with Brandon Smith to be a senior in 2012-13 and Justin Cobbs a junior, and we’ll probably need a point each of the next two years. So who are we looking at right now? Dominic Artis from Vallejo is probably priority one. Artis will probably be the best point guard in the West when all is said and done, and his upcoming transfer to Findlay should boost up his national profile.” (California Golden Blogs)
  • adidas Invitational: Brannen Greene interview: “2013 Monroe (GA) and Atlanta Celtics wing Brannen Greene was among the prospects that received a call from the Indiana coaching staff on June 15, the first day coaches could call juniors-to-be. Greene, the No. 15 prospect nationally in his class by ESPN.com, talked about his game and his recruitment on Thursday at the adidas Invitational.” (Inside the Hall)

Analysis

  • Dealing With The Gary Parrish-William Wesley Story: Reviewing NCAA bylaws in light of Parrish’s story reporting on Wesley following several Kentucky very closely including Michael Gilchrist. (A Sea of Blue)
  • Sean Miller has planted his flag on the West Coast: “With the recent commitment of Gabe York, it’s safe to say Sean Miller and Co. has solidified themselves as one of the top, if not the top West Coast team in terms of recruiting (we can talk actual teams another time).” (Arizona Desert Swarm)
  • Kentucky Basketball Recruiting Spotlight: Kyle Wiltjer: “Kyle Wiltjer, who committed on August 28, 2010, was the fourth (and what turned out to be final) member of an absolutely stacked recruiting class. His commitment cemented Kentucky’s place atop the 2011 recruiting rankings, the third year in a row the Wildcats have held the pole position. Although Wiltjer is a touch less heralded than the other three players in Kentucky’s 2011 recruiting class (Anthony Davis, Marquis Teague and Michael Gilchrist), he’s no slouch. It’s easy to forget that Wiltjer has 5 stars of his own next to his name, and was a participant in all three major post-season all-star games.” (A Sea of Blue)
  • Mind the gap: Villanova Wildcats basketball: “The Wildcats lose a lot of shots and a lot of skill. Can the backups from last year improve their shooting? And can new blood improve the Villanova defense?” (Rumble in the Garden)
