Definitely extenuating circumstances, but the Horns were down 17-3 and in years past would have gotten their doors blown off regardless. Instead, I saw a superior team take over the game in the last 30 minutes of that one. KU had flirted with losses like that this year and last at home, but nobody had legitimately taken it to them the way that Texas did on that day.

By now everyone has heard about Thomas Robinson and the incredible misfortune he has faced, but is anyone aware that Thomas was notified of his mother’s death the night before the game against Texas? This was the third significant death he had to deal with in one month. Every parent/adult presence in his life was gone in just one month. The team was far more worried about Thomas than they were the game the next day, and spent most of the night with him. The emotional trauma and the lack of sleep played a significant factor in the play of the Jayhawks the next day.
This is not to say that Texas would not have won that game otherwise, but can anyone deny that it played a significant role in the outcome? The Kansas team was out of gas in the second half of that game and now everyone should understand why. Congratulations to Texas for winning in an extremely difficult place to win for any visitor, but everyone should withhold judgement on the KU team that lost that game. To say there were extenuating circumstances is putting it mildly.
