I’m going to buy what Jim Boeheim is selling and take Syracuse second. Boeheim’s teams always seem to do better when expected to do less, and vice versa. While acknowledging that, I think the Cuse will have a big year.

The one team I think you have too high is Louisville. I just don’t think there’s enough talent there to finish in the top half. I pretty much agree on the rest of the rankings, plus or minus a spot.

I basically agree with Zach on St. John’s. They have the experience and a couple top players but the vast majority of their roster is average Big East talent. I think they’ll be better but I’m going to stop short of saying they’ll make the NCAA’s. I do think they’ll be in the conversation.

Here’s what I’ve got:

1. Villanova
2. Syracuse
3. Pittsburgh
4. Georgetown
5. West Virginia
6. Marquette
7. Seton Hall
8. Notre Dame
9. St. John’s
10. Louisville
11. Connecticut
12. South Florida
13. Cincinnati
14. Providence
15. Rutgers
16. DePaul

I think the league will exceed expectations and put at least 7, probably 8 teams in the tournament. Out of my rankings, I feel Seton Hall, St. John’s and Connecticut have the best chance to move up a lot. Georgetown, West Virginia and Notre Dame may move down a bit.

Don’t think I disagree with any of the rankings. SH has the talent to really surprise some people, but as you pointed out chemistry is a major question. We’ll see how Willard can deal with these personalities, the jury is certainly out on that one. St. John’s is also intriguing. Given Lavin’s success at UCLA, coaching might be the difference to push that Kennedy-Hardy-Horne group into NCAA contention.
