I remember being resentful of the success UCLA had during the sixties and seventies under Coach Wooden. Later, I had the opportunity to read some things about Coach Wooden, including some things about his history, and some of the things he has said, and some of the things he believed, and I came to realize that John Wooden was not just a great basketball coach, he was also a great man. A man of character, morality, loyalty, hard work, dedication and faith. Looking back on it now, I wish that I had known what kind of man he was when I was rooting for his teams to lose. Had I known the caliber of man he was, I think that instead of pulling against UCLA, I would have been a big fan. And all because of the greatness of John Wooden the man.
