Southern Conference Championship- Predictions

First/Second Rounds

March 5

(3S) Davidson vs. (6N) Elon – Davidson has had a better year than what people expected after losing Stephen Curry to the NBA draft. The Wildcats should win by double digits against a bad Elon team.

(4N) UNC Greensboro vs. (5S) Furman– Another interesting match-up as Furman has a loss to UNC Greensboro in the regular season but the Paladins will seek revenge in this one. Furman by 7.

(4S) The Citadel vs. (5N) Samford – The Citadel is clearly the better team here but they haven’t been playing well of late, look for Samford to pull the upset. Samford by 4.

(3N) Chattanooga vs. (6S) Georgia Southern – Look out for this game as Georgia Southern has nothing to play for and could come out shooting well from three. If the Mocs don’t defend the three-point line well the Eagles could move on here. Chattanooga by 4.

March 6 (projected)

2N) Western Carolina vs. Davidson – If we take the higher seeded Davidson, the Catamounts would face a tough opponent in round two. The Wildcats defeated the Catamounts at home this season where usually Western Carolina is near perfect. WCU gets revenge in this one, winning by 5.

(1S) Wofford vs. Furman – In-state rivals Wofford and Furman battle in the second round with Wofford too much for the Paladins. Wofford wins by 6.

(1N) Appalachian State vs. Samford – Appalachian State faces Samford in its second round game and they take care of business by winning easily by 10 or more.

(2S) College of Charleston vs. Chattanooga winner– College of Charleston is the most dangerous team in the tourney with the way they can shoot the three and well-coached. The Cougars won’t let Chattanooga get in the way of them heading back to the finals. CofC gets revenge after last year’s championship game lost by winning by 10.

Semifinals (projected)

March 7

WCU vs. Wofford – Western Carolina presents too many problems for Wofford and ends their run to make the SoCon finals. WCU by 6.

Appalachian State vs. College of Charleston – Could be a very entertaining game but in the end College of Charleston is too determined to win this championship. Cougars by 5.

Finals (projected)

March 8

College of Charleston vs. WCU – In the finals of the Southern Conference Championship it’s a rematch of a game played earlier this year on television. It was a classic then with a Western Carolina victory but this time around the Cougars are just too much for the Catamounts hitting ten threes en route to the SoCon championship, 85-80.

SoCon tourney winner: College of Charleston
