The Phil Ford era notwithstanding (watching Ford torture, then torch, opposing guards was always a thing of beauty), the 4 corners was admittedly not the most exciting thing in the world. That was at least somewhat offset by how mad it drove the most obnoxious of opposing fans and coaches, and how thoroughly it revealed how lame their pressure D was (if they had one at all). Coaches such as Wake’s Carl Tacy proved you could thrive against the 4 corners with a good PG (say, Frank Johnson) and some stones when it came to putting on the pressure. Watching other teams reveal their lameness by staring out at the guy with the ball rather than pressure him revealed their lack of confidence and competence, both from a coaching and defense standpoint.

On the other hand, the clock is a good thing, as Dean always said it would be. Everybody wins!!
