Jordan Freemyer is the RTC correspondent for the Big Sky and Mountain West Conferences.

After almost three full weeks of regular season play, there are four teams in the Mountain West with one loss or less. The conference is off to a fast start and should get multiple teams into the NCAA Tournament.

Current Standings:

  1. BYU (7-0)
  2. San Diego State (6-1)
  3. Utah (5-1)
  4. Wyoming (5-1)
  5. UNLV (6-2)
  6. Air Force (5-2)
  7. TCU (5-3)
  8. Colorado State (3-4)
  9. New Mexico (3-4)

San Diego State has had the best week of anyone in the Mountain West, going 4-0 with a championship in the Great Alaska Shootout and a win at Northern Colorado last night to push their record to 6-1 on the season. The Aztecs are off to the fast start despite not having all-conference forward Lorenzo Wade. Fellow senior Kyle Spain has picked up the slack, averaging over 19 points per game in the last week.

This week’s schedule:

  • Saturday vs San Diego
  • Wednesday at Arizona

BYU has continued their hot start, improving to 7-0 on the season with blowout wins this week over Big Sky foes Idaho State and Weber State. Senior guard Lee Cummard has led the Cougars, averaging 23.5 points per game in their two wins this week. The schedule gets tougher this week as the Cougars get set to take on in-state rival Utah State on Saturday.

This week’s schedule:

  • Saturday at Utah State
  • Wednesday vs Boise State

Wyoming has continued their surprising start. The Cowboys stumbled last night with a 1-point loss at Boise State, but are 5-1 on the season. Senior guard Sean Ogirri has had a big week, averaging 20.5 points per game and going 10-for-21 from 3-point range.

This week’s schedule:

  • Saturday at Loyola Marymount

Utah has bounced back nicely from their shocking opening night loss to Division II Southwest Baptist, going on a five-game winning streak. This week the Utes got double-digit wins over Oregon and Missouri State. Senior guard Tyler Kepkay has come up big off the bench, with 13 points against Missouri State and 23 against Oregon.

This week’s schedule:

  • Saturday at Idaho State
  • Wednesday vs California
